Surprise Party A surprise birthday party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Latimer Hrovat on Saturday night in honour of Mrs. Anne Sauve, To- ronto, and was attended by a num- ber of friends. During the course of the evening a gift was present- ed to Mrs. Sauve. Mr. and Mrs. Tow Rawlings and family spent the weekend with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Rawlings, in Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Boshart, St. Jacobs, and Mr. and Mrs. Gar- ald Boshart (bridal couple), New York, were weekend visitors with Mrs. Nancy Koehler and other re- latives in the district. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ducharme, Mrs. Theresa Hartman and sons, Cyril and Michael were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hartman and family in London, also calling on Mrs. Mary Masse, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Buehler and family, Waterloo, were weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Beechler. Young People The E.Y.F. of Emmanuel E.U.B. Church held its meeting on Tues- day, December 2, with Dennis Am- acher as chairman. Miss Norma Geiger acted as pianist. After the singing of the hymn, "Breathe on me Breath of God", Gerald Mern- er read a poem, "Any Room for Jesus". Rev. A. M. Amacher led in prayer. Miss Mary Grainger led in the responsive scripture reading. The hymn, "Jesus is Calling", was sung. Dennis Amacher gave the topic, "When the chimes rang". This is the story of a church janitoress who had planned to take Christ - mass baskets to the poor. She was kept at the church all day •doing errands for others. She re- arranged a room for the benefit of Red Stone, who might come to the service on Sunday. She stay- ed with a pair of twins whose mo- ther had gone to the hospital with a heart attack. Carlyle Meikle, Kirkton, broth- er of the bride was best man. A reception for the immediate relatives was held at the home of the bride's parents. Serving the wedding dinner were Ruth Ann and Lynda Dykeman. For travelling the bride changed to a navy blue suit with white accessories. The couple will reside at R.R. 3, Zurich. Jane Elizabeth Centralia wore Institute Host To Grand Bend Ladies The Zurich Women's Institute held their regular meeting on Monday, December 2, in the town- ship hall. Grand Bend Women's Institute were the guests of the evening. Mrs. Lerina Rose led the group in carol singing. Mrs. Leonard Erb gave two readings: "My Letter to Santa Claus", and "A Christmas Bit". Mrs. Helen Sturdevant and Mrs. Raymond Kading of Grand Bend gave a skit. Mrs. Morenz of the Grand Bend Institute gave an interesting de- monstration on gift wrapping, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the ladies. They started at 7.30 p.m. The Guides and Brownies joined together in an enrolment meeting. Mrs. Rowe, leader of the Hensel) Brownies, enrolled the Tweenies: Judy Masse, Marcia Merner and Marilyn Gascho as Brownies. Shir- ley Flaxbard flew up into Guides. Carol Erb was enrolled as Lieut- enant of the Guides. The Ladies Auxiliary served cake and chocolate milk. Next week the Girl Guides will visit the London Orphanage. They will meet at the town hall at 5.45 p.m. Christmas Plans Made by Auxiliary The next meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brownies, Guides, Scouts and Cubs will be held on January 15, and not in December as previously planned. The auxiliary has arranged for a Christmas party for the Brownies and Guides. The Scouts and Cubs will be given Christmas treats. o - OBITUARY William J. Greb A native of Zurich. William John Greb, died in Stratford on Satur- day in his 81st year. He was a retired CNR, boilermaker. Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs.. J. Rose, Stratford; Mrs. Lloyd Miller, Don Mills; Mrs. Al- bert Skidmore, Toronto; Mrs. Ed- ward Barrett, Palmerston; one son, Douglas, Sebringville; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Racey, London; Mrs. Mary Brenner, Zurich; Mrs. Con- rad Shneuker, Milverton; Mrs. Charles Stickels, Detroit; and one brother, Edward, Detroit. Funeral service was held on Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Stratford, with burial in the Avondale Cemetery. could not stay, as she was so dis- appointed. Choir Program At Lutheran Church The junior and senior choirs of St. Peter's Lutheran Church are planning a special carol service, to be held on Sunday evening, Dec- ember 14, at 7.30 p.m. Included in the program will be duets, unison, and two and four part singing. The offering received at this special service will be used to help in the purchase of new gowns for the junior choir.
