BROKEN WINDOW
(Goderich Signal -Star)
Someone heaved a stone through
the front door of Bethel Pente-
costal Tabernacle, making a bole
in the church door, The stone was
found just inside of the door.
Police were informed of the van-
dalism on Sunday.
Sunday morning a man com-
plained to police that his truck
had been stolen from in front of
his residence. Fifteen minutes
after the complaint had been
lodged, police investigated and
found the truck parked just around
the corner from where it was sup-
posed to be.
Another man complained of
something which he would only
complain of in G.T.A. territory --
that
that someone had stolen part of a
case of beer from his car.

County Council.
To Act Upon
CTA Rseolu.tion.
(Goderich Signal -Star)
Huron county council favors re
peal of the Canada. Temperance
Act and the application here in-
stead of the Liquor Control Act
of Ontario. This was indicated
when council adopted its legislative
committee's report concurring in a
resolution from Seaforth council
proposing withdrawal of the fed-
eral law and its replacement with
the provincial law. Under the lat-
ter, various kinds of retail outlet,
for intoxicants may be established
in local municipalities, after an
enabling vote by the electors.
The Seaforth resolution said:
Ripley on Saturday afternoon.
It was a free service conducted
by the Canadian Department of
Agriculture, Health of Animal:,
Branch, under the direction of Dr.
T. J. Cornish of Chesley, federal.
veterinarian.
The Sentinel contacted Dr. Cor-
nish on Tuesday to obtain the
above figures. Of the 8411, dogs
numbered 4,901. There were some
30 "miscellaneous" animals and
the rest were cats. In some cent-
res, Ripley for instance, cats out •
numbered dogs by quite a margin.
SUSPENDED SENTENCE
(Clinton News -Record)
Three 'teenagers were given sus-
pended sentences, and ordered to
make restitution in Goderich court
last Thursday, as a result of a
Hallowe'en prank at SS 10 Stan-
ley Township, which brought the
Brucefield Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment out to extinguish a fire.
Both Melvin Larry Walters, 16,
RR 1, Brucefield and James Broad -
foot, 16, RR 3, Kippen, pleaded
guilty to the charge of wilful dam-
age. Bruce Austin, 16, Seaforth,
pleaded not guilty.
OPP Constable John Parkinson,
who had discovered the fire in the
school yard, told the court that
the boys had admitted setting fire
to a leaf hut, just to see the de-
partment put it out.

Builds Largest
Trailer Unit
Probably the largest mobile unit
ever to be built in Canada, a
mobile chapel 55 feet long and 10
feet wide, left the General Coach
plant in Hensall last Thursday
under police escort to Montreal.
Needed to serve the 15,000 taxi -
men in Montreal, the mobile chap-
el is specially designed to be mov-
ed from place to place in that city.
This special service for Montreal's
taxirnen was first introduced sev-
eral years ago by Father Paul
Aquin, with a small General mobile
chapel. The unit which was just*
built includes many added feat-
ures found desirable as a result
of the experience gained in the usa
of the other mobile unit. The
chapel is self-contained and in
eludes a glassed -in vestibule which
can serve as an outside platform.
The interior, finished in natural
wood, will be equipped with the
pews in Quebec. Stained glass
windows are a feature of the uni'
and are arranged to form crosses
on each side of the chapel.
The unit was so long that spec
Fal Ontario police escorts were
needed to convey it across the
province. At the Quebec border
police of that province took over
the escort duty.

"We respectfully suggest that the
Huron County Council appoint a
committee to seek legal advice,
and investigate the desirability of
petitioning the Dominion Govern
ment to withdraw the Canada
Temperance Act, and adopt the
Ontario Liquir Control Act."
The proposal will be referred to
the county solicitor, said Warden
John Morrissey, for a report at
the January session of Council.
In adoption of the committee
report, council rejected proposals
by the Men's Council of Huron
Presbytery, United Church, for
various amendments to the C.T.A.
designed to curb public drinking
and supply of liquor to those under
age.
