in Seaforth during the week under
the recent proclamation. Two of

appropriate at this time of year.

141st Annual Report
DEPOSITS: Because of your confidence and that of more than
two million other. Canadians in all walks of life, the 13 of M
holds over three billion dollars in deposits. Half these de-

total deposits stood at the record figure of $3,038,349,556.
LOANS: During the year, your Bank has made many thous-
ands of loans to business and industrial enterprises for
production of every kind — to farmers, fishermen, oil -men,
miners, lumbermen and ranchers — to citizens of every call-
ing, and to provincial and municipal governments and school
districts. At the end of October, 13 of M loans amounted to
$1,416,518,876.
INVESTMENTS: Always keeping a good proportion of the
money on deposit in quickly available form, your Bank has
$1,004,904,111 invested in high-grade government bonds
which have a ready market. This money is helping to finance
government projects for the betterment of the country and
the welfare of all Canadians. Other securities held by the
Bank, which include a diversified list of high-quality and
short-term industrial issues — bring total investments to
$1,229018,562.

Manitoulin ---
After Repeal
Manitoulin Island repealed the
Canada Temperance Act. They
then came under the Liquor Con
trol Act. At the end of two years
under the L.C.A., after a careful
study of conditions, a reputable
citizen made this report:
"Drinking among minors still
exists and on a scale that even
those most anxious to discredit the
C.T.A. would not dare suggest
prevail in C,T.A. counties. Minors
are getting liquor evidently with-
out any trouble. The mail boat
leaves necessary provisions to
bring as many as 50 to 60 cases
of beer daily. The day I was ort
the boat nearly all the passengers
were drinking both beer and rye."
Of bootlegging—"It seems ram
pant everywhere ... Drinking has
become a menace. Dances have
had to be stopped even in the
R.C. parish hall.'
Think twice Huron, before you
repeal the C.T.A.!
