Co-operative purchase of an
$18,000 fire truck by Luean and
Biddulph will provide best pro-

Butterfat Content
Varies 'iso ith
Different Cows
Variation in the fat percentages
of milk are the rule rather- than
the exception, according to the
Dairy Branch, Ontario Department
of Agriculture. When too fine a
variation is encountered, the pos-
sible causes should be studied and
corrected.
There are a number of factors
which influence•the butterfat con.
tent of milk. The individuality of
the cow, for instance, must be con-
sidered. Individuals in all breeds
will vary widely in their tests.
There is an average tnst for each
cow from which she will not vary
to any marked amount from year
to year. A low -testing cow should
not be kept for breeding purposes.
Adding a high -testing cow to a
small herd of low -testing cows
will slightly increase the av-
erage test of the herd.
There is a definite variation dur-
ing the lactation period. A cow in
good condition when freshening
will give quite a high test for one
to two weeks and will then decline
gradually for ten to twelve weeks
after which a general rise is indi•
cated until drying off. Cows
milked, too close to their freshen-
ing date will often show a marked
decline in test during their last few
weeks of lactation.
The factors which influence the
butterfat test of milk are discussed
in Ontario Department of Agricul-
ture Circular 179, obtainable at the
office of the county Agricultural
Representative by residents of
Ontario.

cated a deficit of $45.12. The club
concurred in the report which re-
commended that in view of lim-
ited interest in the frolic in its
present form, a change in arrange-
ments be adopted next year.
Committee reports covering the
Park and Health and Welfare were
presented by A. Y. McLean and
C. A. Barber, respectively.
