More Taking
Trade Instruction
Than Ever Before
Participation in vocational, tech-
nical, and trade training courses
increased by approximately 30
percent in the four-year period
from 1952-53 to 1956-57, according
to a Labour Department report re-
leased this week.
The report, entitled "Vocational
Program in Canada" describes pub-
licly operated technical and trade
training courses in Canada. The
increase in particilpabi;on dualiingthe
four-year period 1952-53 to 1956-
57 was most striking in the post-
high school or advanced technical
courses and in annual apprentice-
ship classes, although an apprecia-
ble rise was also shown in high
school and industrial trade cour-
ses. This report is the first in a
series of reports on vocational
training in Canada made as part of
a Research Program on the Train-
ing of Skilled Manpower.
Later reports will be published
on training programs in commer-
cial and service occupations, on
vocational training in government
departments and on training pro-
grams in vocational agriculture.
