SALT POISONING
VISIBLE IN PIGS
Recent studies' naive shown, ap-
parently for the first time, that
sialit poisoning in pigs is a clean--
cut and easily recognizable condi-
tor affecting the animal's h sues.
However, some of the slyn./e t:cm!s
of the condition; resemble atlhier
diseases. Thls makes, proper ditag-
n(oslis. i1ntpanta-it.
Thee Ontario Veterinary Col'l'ege
says that salt poisoning dleveligps
when a iitgh. (levee of sa0it 6!s given
to pigs without an icrease im drink-
ing water. Sysnptcnsinclude, blind-
ness, twitching of nose and neck
muscles, Girdling or running, and
eventually uniconcirousness.
Experiments at tlhe Oiitarlilo Vet-
erinary College have, irnd'icaterd
that ,salt poistonting was most easily
produced! when water wag severely
restricted. The condition did not
'occur at alt When fresh water was

Lamb Prices Drop
In Eastern Canada,
Support Price Set
Dui4'aig the .past two weeks,
lamb prices at some markets in
Eastern Canada dropped to sup-
port price level and offerings were
accepted by the Agricultural Sta-
bilization. Board. .
Support price for goad lambs
at the public stockyards an Mont-
real and Toronto is $19.55 per cwt.,
alliwe.
Under the plan, the board offers
to purchase lamrb carcasses in cold
storage for delivery March 31.,
1959. The trade is free to re-
move lambs Trona. storage any
time before .thrart date if it can
eind a market for them.
Support prices for the various
areas apply to Good lamibs• de-
livered at public stockyards, and
Good Lambs are defined as those
prrev(ding Choice amid Good quali-
ty carcasses (36 to 51 pounds
w+atmdressed weight) and which
will give a carcass yield of at
least 49 percent - warm. dressed
weight based on delivered weight
at stockyards.
Equivalent price ;for warm dres-
sed carcasses at pulb'ii;c srtockyards
in' Montreal. and Toronto, in com-
parison with the $1,9.55 five• weight
basis for goad lambs, is $39.90
per cwt.
RCAF personnel in the Centralia
and Clentort exchanges, acid they
will be in the same directory for
the first t tame.
Mr. Haysomi. .stated .that tins
clalaruge will anaike no difference tin
the placing 'of long distance calls.
It es avooggnized that some oust-
,ornets: formerly listed in the Lan,-. '
don directory may feel they have
need to refer to that book fairly
frequently. However, experience
indicates that most of these cus-
tomers place their calls to a pre-
ferred group of numbers cathed on
a repeat !basis and will find re-
cce!di ug them in the "Blue Book„
a more 'convenient reference; these
books are amenable free of charge
at any business office of the Belt
Telephone Company. If, however,
some customers .feel they have
need for a London directory, ane
can be chtarmed for a nominal
charge.
