Runner-up in the competition was the steer shown by Bili Elliott. In showmanship the young folk changed places in standing, with Bill coming first, and Gail the runner-up. On points the young lady stood first in the over -ail 4-H Club competition, and took home .the Chamberof Commerce shield. The 4-H Club show was part of the livestock exhibition which made up a good part of the Fair. (Staff Photo) est Exhibits Ever at Zurich Fall Fair, ver 1,500 View Stock and Handwork "The best fair Zurich ever had", was the comment heard Tuesday morning after the 93rd annual. Zurich Fall Fair. Sunny skies and warm temperatures helped to make the day a huge success, as close to 1,500 people attended the afternoon festivities. The show got off to a rousing start with a monster parade, which was led by the Dashwood Citizens Band, and the Centralia RCAF Trumpet Band. (eoirthented on page 12) Lumberkings To Play Caledonia Here Saturday The second game of the OBA Intermediate "C" semi- finals between Zurich and Caledonia willbe played in the Zurich ball park on Sat- urday afternoon at 3;o'clock. Zurich won the first game played in Caledonia this past Saturday, and will be going out to try and finish the series in two straight games. The winner will play Latta, a team near Belleville, in the final round for the all -Ontario title. 0 Proud Parents Enter 40 Babies In First Zurich Show Something new for the Zurich Fall Fair, a baby show, drew close to 40 entries, A large crowd was on hand in the Community Centre while the judging took place. Turn Clocks Back Saturday Night, September 27 At midnight Saturday every- one can turn their clocks and watches back one hour, and gain an extra hour sleep. The village trustees have proclaimed this date as the time for Daylight Saving Time to come to an end. While some larger centres will re- main on DST for one more month most of the commun- ities in this district are re- verting to Standard Time on Saturday. 0 Bayfield Fair On September 24, 25 The 102nd annual Bayfield Fall Fair will be held this week, on Wednesday and Thursday. Each year the show is increas- ing in size, and has become a quite attractive one. Everything is included from vegetables to the ripe tempting apples famous in the district. There will be a good display of women's work, and a complete line of livestock shows, including 4-H clubs. In the evening there will be a dance in the Bayfield Town Hall, at which time three lucky draws will be made. A door prize, do- nated by Westlake Furniture, Zurich, will also be drawn for. Evening Horse Show Tops Them All, Local Animals Make Good Showing The Horse Show held in the Zurich Arena on Monday night in conjunction with the Fall Fair, attracted close to 1,000 spectators. "This was the finest horse show I have seen in Western Ontario this year", said Tory Gregg, who was master of ceremonies. "It was terrific!" Horsemen were present from as far east as' Toronto, and south as far as Sarnia. In all, a total of 30 exhibitors took part in the colorful show. In one particular class, the wagon or express team event, a total of six teams were entered, and the winner was the entry of Bert McBride, Zurich. FATHER KENNETH DEITRiCH son of Mr, and Mrs. William Deitrich, Zurich, left on Monday for Rome, Italy, where he will spend the next three years fur- : t.hering his studies in Cannon Law. Father Deitrich has been spending some time at the home of his parents prior to his de- parture. Previously he had serv- ed for three years in the Philip- ines as a Missionary Priest, Father Deitrich left on Monday by train to Montreal and then to New York, from where he will sail to Rome.
