SEPTEMBER 17, 1958 SPORTS DICE T By DON O'BRIEN (Citizens News Sportswriter) WRESTLING SATURDAY NIGHT KINISKI SAYS A CROWD -- OR ELSE When Gene Kiniski, the :mightiest villein of them all, was asked if he would display his rough and il- legal tactics in a town the size of Zurich, he merely replied, "Sure, I'll fight anyplace, 'anywhere, any- time as long as there's a large crowd on hand to see, of course, the greatest and most gentlemanly wrestler of them all". Aft- er strutting around and nodding his head in ele- gant fashion the Great Kiniski went on to say, "However, if there isn't a crowd, someone in this wrestling busi- ness can expect a broken neck over it!" Even though it was wrestling promoter Frank Tunney's neck that he was referring to, the remainder of K i n i s k is audience were visibly sha- ken by the threats of this massive monster. On the brighter side of the picture, Dara Singh, who has recently arrived from his native India to endear himself to the Canadian wrestling public, will appose Kiniski, the ex -Edmonton Eslkmo footballer in the main event on this coning Saturday nite's attractive card at the local arena. Al Kaline made the fielding play of the game when he leaped against the right field fence to rdb Ted Williams of what looked to be a sure home -run. Kaline then threw to first • base to double Runnel, who had strayed too far from the initial sack. This play was worth the price of admission alone. Rete Runnels, Red Sox first baseman, ;banged out three hits to take over the lead in the race for the American League's bat- ting crown, His two closest opponents, Harvey Kuenn of Detroit, and Ted Willl!iarms of Boston, gathered only two hits 'between them, . with the Tiger star gettkig them both.
