Engineer to Survey
Grand Bend For
Sewage System
During the summer months the
Village Council of Grand Bend has
met every second week and many
plans have been discussed and act-
ed upon.
Perhaps one of the mann aehiev-
ments has been the appointment
of an engineer to survey Grand
Bend with an eye towards a lagoon
system of sewage.
Swimming from the docks and
in the river was banned by cosine a
since it is well known that almost
every drowning has occurred in
this area.
The council contributed greatly
to the (beach safety program which
was put into effect this year.
The navies of two streets were
changed this summer thus leaving
only one River Road. New names
were chosen for the road to Sau-
ble Boat Docks and the school
road and they are known as Sau-
bNo Road and Gill Road.
In the spring dredging of the
river from the bridge to the boat
docks was accomplished. The riv-
er was dredged to a depth of six
feet and to a width of as much
as forty in some spots. Dockage
was built on both sides of the
river and hydro outlets installed
on the north side for the use of
the larger pleasure boats.
A further $68,000 program of
dredging is slated to start soon
at the river mouth and steel pil-
ings will be installed.
The council is to be commended
for its fine work and accomplish-
ments this summer.
Reeve of Grand Bend is James
Dalton and Councillors are Well -
wood G41.1I, Wiiliiam. Cochrane, Cam
Chapman and Eric Mc;Iliroy. Mur-
ray DesJardins is village clerk.

Sympathy of the community is
extended to the Cornish family
in the loss of Mrs. Cornish's mo-
ther, Mrs. Brown, who passed
away on Monday, September 1, at
the home of her daughter. Funeral
services will be held on Wednes-
day afternoon at Bayfield Baptist
Church.
Bayfield Woman
Has 92nd Birthday
One of Bayifield's oldest resid-
ents, Mrs. Isabella Lawrason cele-
brated her 92nd birthday last
Thursday.
Although her hearing is impalir-
ed, Mrs. Lawrason is still very
active. She enjoys working in her
.flower garden during the summer
and piecing grunts during the wint-
er months. Each Saturday evening
she drives with her family to visit
old frienda.
The former Isabella Rohner,
Mrs. Lawrason lived on a farm
in Hay Township with her parents
until 1674, when the family moved
to Stanley Township where she
has resided since.
In 1693 she married George
Lawrason, who died in 1917. They
had two children: Samuel Lawra-
son, Listowel and Mrs. Nelson
(Carrie) Heard, Bayfield, with
whom Mrs. Lawraon (hives.
