Lumberkings Tie Mitchell 7-7 In Third
Game; Nine Errors In Seven Innings
After twice blowing a three run
lead, the Zurich Lumberkings
stewed .off a determined Mitchell
;rally to ,hang on to a 7-7 tae in
the third game of ,the Huron -Perth
League finals, played in Zurich
Oast Wednesday night.
Score Three in Second
Although being out hit by the
Lincolns 9-6, the Zurich crew
made the most of their hats to
score three runs an the second,
one in the fourth and three in
the sixth. Their first three runs
came with one out in the second,
when Rawlings drew a base on
balls, Heller also got a walk, and
Gignac ,smashed out a double to
the left field fence, scoring Rawl-
ings. Arn Meyer followed with a,
single, driving in Heller and ad-
vancing Gignac to third. Doug
O'Brien hit a sacrifice fly to cent-
re field, scoring Gignac and that
ended the scoring spree for the
second inning, leaving Zurich with
a 3-0 lead.
In the first of the third Mitch-
ell carne through with two runs
on an error, a base on balls, and
two singles. They added another
in the fourth when Saxton scored
on an inside the park homer.
Zurich came back with a single
run in their half of the ,fourth, af-
ter Heller led off with a base on
balks, Gignac reached' first on an
error, and Arn; Meyer smashed
out a double to score Heller. What
could have been a rally for more
runs was cut short when umpire
Gus Bussey gave a queer ruling
'on an interference play calling
two men out at once.
In the first of the sixth Mitchell
scored a single run on a single,
a stolen base and two. errors to
tie up the ball game 4-4.
Lead Again in Sixth
Zurich forged ahead 7-4 in the
last of the. sixth, to take a lead
which looked; good enough for a
victory. Lead off batter Ron Hel-
ler got a base an balls, his third
of the game and advanced to sec-
ond when Gignac got on with an
error to the pitcher. Arn Meyer
came through with a timely single,
his third hat of the game, to score
Heller and advance Gignac to
third.. The next butter, Doug O'-
Brien, lined out a double to score
both Gignac and Meyer and gave
the 'Kings their 7-4 lead.
However, in the seventh inning,
Porky Wallace led off the Mit-
chell attack with. a ,home run.
Three singles, two errors, and a
base on balls allowed the Lincolns
to score two more runs. and tie
the game. There were three run-
ners left on base when Bob White
struck out Ken Saxton to retire
the side. Zurich could not get a
runner co base in their half of the
seventh inning, and settled for a
