News
(By PAT O'BRIEN)
On June 28, the First Zurich
Boy Scouts were transported to
Holmesville for a week's camping
trip. Arriving at camp at 2.30,
the boys went ahead and put up
tents and built fireplaces. After -
supper campfire was laid out and
wood was gathered for it. After
campfire was made we all went
for a swim in the river. Although
a few boys had bloodsuckers on
them they all enjoyed their swim.
At 9 o'clock campfire was lit and
we sat around it singing songs,
playing skits, and planned for our
daily activities. Lights were out
at 10.30.
The following day was a bright
sunny one, but when I awakened
there was a startling noise outside
my tent. Opening the flaps I found
a herd of steers so close that I
could have touched them with my
hands. The boys were awakened
and after breakfast they were giv-
en time to make gadgets., At 9.30
inspection was held. This being
Sunday we held a Scouts Own
Service. Free time was then given
until dinner time.
After dinner the boys had free
time to build, and to get settled
in camp. At 3.30 the boys went for
a swim. After supper they cleaned
the grounds and the tents and
washed up. At 9 o'clock we were
invited over to the Cub camp to
campfire which we all enjoyed
very much. After campfire we
were all treated to hot chocolate.
The days after were followed in
the same pattern along with a few
hikes. Every day three boys were
picked to go to the store in Hol-
mesville which is a three mile
hike. On Wednesday of that week
the troop went for a ten mile hike.
On this hike the patrols carried
food for dinner. After dinner, and
on the way home, most of the
boys were tired but kept up good
spirits.
Since this was the first week-
long camping trip Zurich has ever
