I•IOME OPENER TO -NIGHT
The prolonged baseballs rivalry .between, Dashwood and Zurich
will begun early thus year when the Tigers from Dashwood 'invade
the Lumberking diamond to -might. Bath steams will have their un-
defeated records. on, the line. The Tigers have already trounced the
Exeter 1Vfohawks 12-5 while the Lumberkings have edged Mitchell
7-5 and Exeter 3-1.
The visiting Dashwood crew will have several new faces to
their line-up besides the all boo familiar regulars that local fans
;have been booing for years. Jim Hayter, veteran catcher, is the new
Thur manager •andisf he is able to instill his peppery style of play,
iinsto the pilayens the Tigers will definitely be hard to beat.

The Dashwood her SteveM tro, whoviR t lted ed forath several new them last year;f Jim
including former Mohawk backstop;
Melville, a bird baseman; Bob Meirarg, pitching os ect, southpaw
Frank Clive, a Hirst baseman; a young piths g ;px p
Dave Reitz; and Bob Restemeyer, en 'outfielder. With the exception
of sophomore shortstop Don Gentner, the remaining Tigers have been
around for several years and could well be classed as Huron -Perth
veterans. These players include such well-known faces as second
baseman Bob, Hayter, outfielders Ray Wein, Dick Regier, Jack
Geiser and Gerry Mar tone, and utility man Charles Tiernan.
The Lumberkimg line-up will. (probably find portsider Jim
Ruttle on the mound, manager Tom Rawlings catching, Don O'Brien
at first, Doug O'Brien at second, Doug "Red" Theander at short',
BIM Yungblut at hied, with Bruce Moir, Jerry Rennie, Jerry Bell,
Don Hesse, and Ben Gignac sharing outfield duties. Manager Rawl-
ings also informs us that there is a. possible ch'an'ce of Arnie Meyer
making the game. Wilth, both teams feeling confident of victory an
interesting and exciting game is certainly expected.
Buy a baseball booster ticket and avoid the rush and confusion
at the gate. Remember this game :promises to be one of the year's
highlights. See you there!
MANTLE A PITCHER.?
Casey Stengel, Yankee manager, claims that he may have to
use star outfielder Mickey Mantle on the mound when. their many
rained out games are replayed. Mantle, according to Casey, has
a fine rising fast bail, good curve, and even a knuckter which he
is able to control. The Yankee star has insisted for several seasons
that he could win 20 games a season as a starting pitcher. This
would be in reverse to Babe Ruth's career, as the immortal "Bambino"
began his playing days as a pitcher and ended them as an outfielder.
To get the daily use of his big home -run bat the Yankee brass
converted Ruth into an outfielder and thus possibly prevented him
becoming one of the greatest southpaws of all time. Therefore we
can't see Casey ignoring Mantle's many home -runs and almost
countless RBI's with the hopes of making a starting pitcher out
of him. In addition the Yankee pitching situation seems pretty weld
under control with the likes of Bob Turley, Whitey Ford, Don
Larson, Bobby Shantz and Johnny Kucks on the mound.

the eight -inning contest. He struck
out 12 batters, and gave up only
one base on balls.

ie Ford were stingy with heir
offerings, giving up only four com-
bined hits (between them. Three
of them came in the big Zurich

Only two errors were committ-
ed tin the well played game, one
to each team.
The Heroes
Hats off to pitcher Jim Ruttle and outfielder Bruce Moir for
'their part in Friday nite's 3-1 victory over Ei.eter. Ruttle, who
has been troubled with wildness allll spring, looked very impressive
as he walked only one Mohawk batter, while striking out an even
dozen. He limited the Exeter crew to three. scattered hits. Moir,
a Hensall 'product, who is playing with Zurich this season, certainly
displayed his effectiveness early as he slashed out a base bit to score
the two winning runs.
New Faces
Pitchers Jim Ruttle, Dresden, and Arnie Meyer, Harbour Beach,
Michigan, have been added to the 1lumberlisig's roster for the
coming season. Ruttle, a University of Western Ontario student,
hurled far Moore Centre k Intermediate "A" competition last year
while Meyer, who attends Port Huron Jr. College, starred for the
.(locals last season. In addition Bruce Moir, Jerry Ronnie, Jerry Bell
and several others from Hensall are vying for a 'berth on the local
squad.
