Ontario's Low death rate from
tuberculosis, estimated at 3.9 per
100,000 population this year, is
rnannily due to the efficient sys-
tem of plass x-ray surveys. In
1957, 61 percent of the mass sur-
vey reported eases were in the
early stages, according to a report
issued by the Ontario Department
of Health's, Division. of Tubercul-
osis Prevention.
During 1957 a total of 355,022
persons were x-rayed in the Dep-
artment's mass survey in Ontario.
This was the second highest total
of x-rays in a one-year period
since the inception of mass sur-
veys in the province. The top
"prodhictibn" of chest x-rays was
in 1955 when 388,268 persons
were screened.
The department points out that
finding a TB case, even far ad-
vanced, can be saving a life. Find-
ing
ineding a case early enough is a great-
er saving—of life, of treatment
time, of further seeding of the
disease among family and friends.
In addition to discovering 'tub-
erculosis, mass surveys have un-
covered other chest 'abnormalities
which were reported to patient's
physicians. In the period of 1950-
57, survey's' have found 53,306 cas-
es of other chest diseases, frequ-
ently heart conditions •and lung
cancers.. In 1957 the total .of these
other chest diseases detected was
close to 8,000.

What is New?

even bribe an employee to let
the secret oat . . .
However, this newspaper can
announce at this time .that Can-
ada Packers is cancemned with
something that its brand new, that
is beautiful: looking and that ev-
eryone will like.
How do we know .this much?
Why that's what Canada Packers'
