Hensall Chamber of Commerce Drops
Western Ontario Fiddlers Contest
(By our Hensall Correspondent)
Hensall Chamber of Commerce
decided at their dinner meeting
Wednesday evening to drop the
Western Ontario Old Time Fid-
dlers Contest, scheduled for this
•spring.
"Declining interest among
sponsors of the project forced its
cancellation, but there is a pos-
sibility it may be taken up again
if someone can be found who is
willing to organize it," R. H.
Middleton, retiring Chamber presi-
dent, said. Mr. Middleton has
been closely associated with the
event for the past ten years. The
contest attracted hundreds of vis-
itors to Hensall in that time and
has drawn competitors from as
far as Owen Sound, Brampton
and Windsor.
The fiddling competition is the
second major Hensall community
project to be shelved for this
year. The Kinsmen Club has al-
ready cancelled plans for the an-
nual Bean Festival, an attraction
for thousands each summer.
Charles Fiford was elected new
president of the Chamber, suc-
ceeding Mr. Middleton, who has
served for about 16 years. Other
new officers are: Howard Scane,
first vice-president; Lorne Hay,
second vice-president; K, K.
Christian, secretary -treasurer.
Mr. Hay was named chairman
of a committee to call for tenders
for removal of a house on the
bowling green. The building is to
be moved to make way for a new
branch of the Bank of Montreal,
others named on the committee
were W. O. Goodwin, Walter
Spencer and K. K. Christian.
A proposal that the Chamber
consider sponsoring a softball
team this year was discussed.
Give gifts that say: Live better

Express your good wishes the modern way.
Give the wonderful electrical gifts that
promise happier, easier living for
years to come. Whatever your budget,
there are electrical gifts to make a bride's heart
sing .. , an electric fry pan ... a handy automatic
pop-up toaster ... a mixer or a steam iron. For the future
man of the house there are electric shavers and a wonderful
array of time saving power tools ... and what couple
wouldn't be delighted with one or two handsome,
modern electric lamps. They'll be proud of their electric gifts
and happy too because they're so economical to use.
