BOLTON, assistant ag- ricultural representative for Huron County) Cold weather and frost in some areas has almost shopped growth as far as pastures are concerned. If the frostcontinues the crops of legume hay will be somewhat re- duced. All of the spring seeded cereals have germinated very well and although the growth; is slow most of these crops were weal rotated before the weather ;turned cold. He also sent her some dried fruit, thinking everything in Florida was frozen. Last week Bill was visiting his sister at Port Huron, and she returned the coal to him, along with a coconut and turnip. Here he proudly shows the gifts given him. (Staff Photo) Grannie Turkhiem's << Recipe Box » RAISIN PIE (Mrs, Albert Kalbtleisch) 2 eggs slightly beaten 14 cup brown sugar lVi cups sour cream 34 cup white sugar 1 tablespoon corn starch 1!2 teaspoon cinnamon teaspoon nutmeg 14 teaspoon cloves 1 cup seedless raisins Line a 9" pie pan with pastry, bake in hot oven (450°F) far five minutes, remove from oven. .Slightly beat eggs, add brown sugar and sour cream. Blend, add white sugar, which has been mixed worth corn starch and spices. Blend with beater, add raisins. Pour into partially :baked shell, return 'to hot oven tor 10 minu- tes. ,Reduce heat to (325°F) and continue baking until custard is set. Coal and cover with whip- ped cream. 24 IIOUR SALAD (Mrs. F.d.. Deters) 2 eggs beaten 4 'tablespoons vinegar 4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons butter 1 eup cream whipped Put eggs in double boiler and add 'vinegar and sugar beating constantly until thick and smooth. Remove from heat, add butter and cool. When cold fold in whipped cream and fruit mixture of: 2 cups grapes or white cher- eies cut in halves 2 cusps pineapple 2 cups oranges cut fine 2 cups out marshmallows Turn in fancy nod and put in refrigerator for 24 hours. Makes a party salad and serves 12 to 14. ICE BOX OATMEAL COOKIES (Mrs. Milton Deitz) ':a eup white sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 egg cup of butter 'and lard mixed 1 cup chopped dates or eaisdns 1 tablespoon vanilla 2 cups oatmeal :1 teaspoon soda 11s cups ;pastry flour Form in a roll and put in the refrigerator over night.
