HOW MANY EAT THEIR FISH?
(Bolton Enterprise)
F{OW MANY FISHERMEN actually like fish?
In an appeal to all sportsmen to honour angling season
regulations and protect fish during the spawning period, Senior
Conservation officer J. S. Ellis, of the Ontario Department of
Lands and Forests, says that years of questioning and experience
have brought these personal conclusions:
One person in ten claims to be "so crazy about fish" that
they could eat them every day if they could.
Two in ten eat fish infrequently and say they enjoy eating
fish caught in the spring.
Two in ten dislike eating fish and the remaining

"'It seems,' Mr. Ellis concluded, " that most people, in any case,
Have quite an urge to take fish in the spring period. The days
when suckers were netted and pickled by the barrel for summer
consumption ended with the advent of the electric refrigerator.
Choice filets of cod, perch, pickerel and pike can be purchased
now at reasonable prices throughout the year, scaled, boned and
sanitarily wrapped for the pan. No doubt they're more palatable
and legal than an egg -laden spawner that has to be processed.
During April, game fish are protected. Seasons opened May 1,
for trout, May 15 for pickerel and pike, except in the Great Lakes
where there is no closed season, June 28 for bass and muskies. It
Is contrary to regulations and to good conservation to take game
fish until these dates. Let's give the game fish a chance."

Only 1,666 ,alcoholic cases in
Ontario hast year were reached
by special treatment services. A
few others received help In hos-
pitals, private clinics and penal
institutions. Ontario has an est-
imated 76,000 alcoholics. Four th-
ousand new cases are added each
year.
These statistics were tabled in
the Ontario legislature recently
by the Alcoholism Researoh Foun-
dation.
One hopeful trend was pointed
out in the report. Employees are
awakening to the fact that al-
cohollismn is a very serious problemn,
in Industry. In employee groups
the Foundation has surveyed,
from. 3 to 6 percent have alcohol
problems, These employees aver-
age 18% days absenteeism per
year. About 10 days above the
normal rate. The answer 'to this
serious problem? Surely mot on-
ly more facilities for cure, but
much more intensive prevention
measures—through education, of
youth in home, chinch and school.

The younger you are the easier it is
That's what the middle-aged "duffers" say on the golf course
when a teenager breaks 80 for the first time.
It's'the same story with family protection. The younger
you are when you first arrange it, the more likely you are
to be insurable. And the younger you are, the lower the
premiums, too.
The Mutual Life of Canada is helping thousands of young
Canadians plan for future security. Talk to a Mutual of
