"Whistle While You Work",
a catch tune of a few years ago
couvtaiined some very sound advice.
It is difficult to. sing and be out

I often recall, with envy, the
even good nature and serenity
with which my mother met her

key to her caain, relaxed nature
might be the ;fact that she was

In this age of "cus!tiorn-madle"
Music, how many of us ever sing
as we work?
The next time things really get
you -down, trythis experiment.
liaise your voice dm song, even
if tit is a bit weak and off-key

don't rise with it. Begin with
some of the good old hymns like
" iaonunt Your Many Pliessings•" and
end u,Iy with some of those• crazy
catch tunes you used to sing
"way back when".
You may find that your "pre-
schooler" will turn off the TV
and listen in .amazement at first,
But :before long she may join in
and soon be saying, "Let's sing
it again, Mommy". (Your teen-
ager may still prefer Presley),.

Improved heating systems in
!homes and public buildings have
caused a trend from woollens to
dark cottons for winter.
.Many of the fabrics' ,are safely
washable but tagged "dry clean
only", because, of .intricate styl-
ing or non -washable trim.. These
can be spot washed between
cleaning trips. It is well to cut
a small piece from some. incon-
spicuous place on the dress, pin
.it to a piece of white cloth and
wash it first: This gives one an
idea if it shrinks or runs..
The areas most frequently in
need of spot washing are the
hem line, under. arms, pocket edg-
es, collar !and cuffs. When you
.spot -wash, put a towel under the
area to blot up excess moisture
and stroke from the centre of
the spot to the outer rim, first
with a sudsy sponge then with
clear water.

Fair tresses in the laughing
breeze,
Our hearts rejoice in sunny
skies
I'n singing birds, and budding
trees.
We long ,for wakening hyacinths,
For violets on wooded hilus!;
And crocuses that venture forth
To greet the nodding daffodils.
But -- come the days of muddy
feet,
Of orchard fences sagging down,
OM grass, new mud, in ditch
and field
AN patterned in a darty brown.
And suddeni)y our thought return •
To ring of voices on the ice,
To gleaming trail on mohntaixt-'

That was the. skier's paradise;
To jingle beills on frosty nights,
Snow drifts piled high and clean;
The twinkling of the Christmas
liigh:tts,
And sipinrits gaily keen.
Then April graciously retracts,
To let the shimmering whiteness
fall;
.And hearts admit to being glad
That Winter took his Curtain
