Miles, agricul- tural representative for Huron.) The rains of last weekend and during the week were welcomed by the farmers as ground condit- ions had been very dry, however it has interrupted seeding oper- ations and there has been very little growth of the grain that has been seeded. Some farmers in the south end of the ,County have completed their seeding operat- ions. I am enclosing the recipe for one of my favorite salads this week, and I hope that you will send us some of yours soon. CI D E COTTAGE CHEESE SALAD In Lime Jello 2 pkgs. lime jello 3,4 cups boiling water 1/4 cup lemon juice or vinegar 2 cups cottage cheese 1/2 cup chipped blanched al- monds Maraschino cherries (optional) . Dissolve lime jello in boiling wat- er. Add lemon juice or vinegar. Cool to syrup consistency. Add cottage cheese, blanched almonds and cherries. Chill until nearly set •and pour into mould or in- dividual small moulds. Q a o CHOCOLATE DROP COOKIES (Mrs. Len Prang) 1/z cup A11 Bran cup sour milk 1/4 cup shortening 1/2 cup white sugar 1 egg % cup flour 11/z tsps. baking powder 1/4 tsp. soda and 1/: tsp. salt 1/z cup cocoa 1/2 tsp. vanilla Soak all bran in sour milk, blend shortening and sugar, add egg and mix well. Sift together dry ingredients, add alternately with all bran and vanilla. Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet, bake at 350° for about 12 min- utes. When cool spread with icing made of icing sugar, hot water and vanilla. 0 HILLSGREE1! (Mrs. Gordon Coleman, Correspondent) Shower A shower was held at the home of Mrs. Glenn Koehler on Thurs- day evening, April 10, for Marilyn Erb, bride -elect of April 19. Friends and neighbours of the bride enjoyed an evening of con- tests and a reading by Miss Joan Koehler. The bride was then seat- ed in a decorated chair and an address was read by Mrs. Evelyn Schrader. Marilyn was the re- cipient of many useful and lovely gifts. She thanked the people for her gifts and invited them to a trousseau tea that her mother is having for her on Wednesday, April 16. Lunch was served and an enjoyable evening came to a close. Miss S. Dashwood Safety Guards The Dashwood Safety Guards held their fourth meeting Wednes- day evening with the leaders and 13 girls present. The meeting opened with "0 Canada". Pamph- lets on sanitation and wells were distributed. The first aid kits were ordered. The girls decided to invite the home economist, Miss Shirley Patterson, to be their guest at a future meeting. De- monstrations on posture were giv- en. Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan discussed micro-organisms, combating germs, safe milk, sewage disposal, house flies and their control, gen- eral rules in case of infection, and rules of sanitation. Mrs. Harry Hoffman discussed a chart on First Aid. Roll call for next meeting, "Name a man who contributed to health, whose story you wrote in your record book." Home assign- ments—make a list of people who contributed to health. The meet- ing closed with the 4-H pledge. Ivan Sharrow has purchased the Church shed from the Evangelical U.B. J. Killinger, Lon don, was guest speaker at the evening service. Mrs. Howard Klumpp, and. Brad, spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wein and daughter at Sudbury. Mrs. Robert Newton and child– ren, London, spent Easter week with Mrs, Amelia Willert.
