family., were Easter visitors in
London, with Mrs. Thiel's parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hesse, and
family, spent Easter Sunday with
relatives in Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. John Daly, De-
troit, were Easter visitors with
their relatives in Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bedard
and family, Detroit, spent Easter
weekend with relatives in Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cornforth,
and family, Toronto, were weekend
visitors with Mrs. Anne Sauve.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Deichert, To-
ronto, enjoyed the holiday week-
end with the latter's sister, Miss
Ethel Gabel.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Britnell,
Sarnia, spent the weekend at the
home of the latter's mother, Mrs.
Alma Haberer, in Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Johnson,
Kincardine, visited the past week
with Mr. and Mrs. Julius Thiel
in Zurich.
Douglas Theander was a week-
end visitor at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Norman Overholt, on the
Blue Water Highway.

Mr. and Mrs. Oran Fretz, Mark-
ham, were Easter visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gingerich and
Mr. and Mrs. Asa Steckle.
Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Peachey
and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Both-
well, Detroit, were Easter guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Broken -
shire, Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant Case and
family, Newmarket, spent the Eas-
ter holiday with Mr. and Mrs.
Herb Mousseau, and other relat-
ions in Zurich.
Patrick J. Cunningham spent
the weekend with his wife and
daughter who have been vacation-
ing at the .home of Mr. and Mrs.
Chester Smith. •
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hope and
family, Streetsville, were Easter
visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Meyers,
Mr. and Mrs. Russel Lee, Port
Huron, enjoyed the Easter week-
end with Mr. and Mrs,. Tom Mey-
ers, in Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kaufman and
family, Toronto, enjoyed the East-
er holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Haberer Sr.
Miss Marlene, Wagner, who is
teaching at Kitchener, is spend-
ing the Easter vacation with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Wagner.

Recipe
This week we are featuring two
recipes given us by Mrs. Vernon
Oesch; and a recipe of my own
for spice cake, which I have hat
a special request for.
Quite a few of you. ladies have
told us you are going to send in
some of your favorite recipes; just
send then along and we will be
glad to use them in this column.
SPICE CAKE
I cup of oatmeal, over which
pour 1. cup of boiling water and
let stand for 20 minutes.
Then add 11cup .butter; 14
.cups brown sugar; 2 eggs; ih cup
chopped dates, 1 teaspoon cin-
namon; 3/L teaspoon cloves; 1 tea-
spoon soda; 1 cup flour. I usually
put a carmel icing on this cake,
if, anyone woul like the recipe
for it, they may have it.
SYRUPSYRP TARTS

2 eggs
3!t cup brown sugar
1 cup corn or maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter
salt and vanilla
Sprinkle with walnuts
Put. this mixture into unbaked
tart shells and bake in a quick
oven.
BAKED BEANS and DRESSING

Boil white beans until soft,
then drain off the water and mash.
Add salt, a little butter, 2 cups
of fowl dressing. Mix this togeth-
er and add a little water; put a

Mr. and Mrs. Clare Hoffman,
Galt, were Easter weekend visit-
ors with friends and relatives in

spending a few days holidays at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin

Miss Gloria Gingerich, nurse at
Kitchener -Waterloo Hospital, is

Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Eickmeier,

Beatrice Hess spent a few days in
Milverton visiting with the for-
mer's father. They also attended
the wedding of Miss Lois Hecken-
dorn in Elmira.
Dr. and Mrs. W. D. Bryce, Ot-
tawa, were Easter visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Fritz, and
other friends in the Zurich dist-
rict. They also attended the wed-
ding of Miss Lois Heckendorn, in
EIinira.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pulford,
London, and Mr, and Mrs. Robert
Oxland, Aldershot, and their fam-
ilies, were Easter visitors at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Hab-
erer. Miss Arlene Haberer, Lon-
don, and Arnold Meyer, Port Hur-
on, also visited with the Haber-
ers.
Birthday Party
On Monday afternoon a party
was held at the home of Eleanor
Prang in honor of Sharon Lawr-
ence, who was celebrating her
birthday. The girls attending were:
Gail Siebert, Carol Fischer, Mary
Ellen Thiel, and Elizabeth John-
son. The hostess served a delicious
birthday cake, which was enjoyed
by the girls.
Celebrate 81st Birthday
Mr. and Mrs, Wilfred Jervis and
son Kelvin, Clinton; Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Wells and family, Preston; Mr.
and Mrs. W. B. Gibbons and fam-
ily, Woodbridge, and Mr. and Mrs.
Caanpbell McKinley and family vis-
ited at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Sylvanus Witmer on Sunday, to
celebrate Mrs. Witmer's 81st birth-
