The Needle -Point
(MRS. NORMA SIEBERT, B.A. Woman's Page Editor)
We talk about visiting the
moon, but how many of us
find time to visit a lonely
friend at the other end of
town?
The words Easter, Spring and
Garden seean almost synonymous.
Small wonder that a local house-
wife who prefers to be "P.P.'S."
experienced the following urge
last week.
The Seed

Oh, here are those trim coreless
carrots,
I really should have some on hand;
They keep well, so crisp and so
tasty,
(Cousin Mary's were certainly
grand.)
Just look at all those cucumbers,
But I'll stick to the same kind
this year;
And since I'm into the business,
I may as well order them. here,

But hold on i that's still months

Oh, peppers! I would have for-
gotten,
But I shall need plenty of them;
For casseroles, salads, and del-
icate strips
To serve with a snack now and
then.
And endive, kolh-rabi and spinach,
Swiss chard and Brussels Sprouts,
Pimento, parsley and radishes
Are all needed without a doubt.
Now where in the world is the
salvia?
This catalog's all mixed up, I'd
say,
You'd think you shouldn't have to
Keep hunting in this stupid way.
Oh, gaze on those stately cannas!
Some lupins I simply must order,
Pentstemon, iris, snapdragons,
Alyssum to round off a border.
Pansies there must be, and asters
Kochia of flaming hue;
Purple phlox and gay zinnia,
And graceful delphinium blue.
Oh, here at last is the salvia.
I must say I almost forgot;
I'll order all three --dwarf, medium

is a thing of the past. They would
be best planted in a hot bed first,
as planted later they are just at
their best when the first early
frost comes. Then there is endive,
given the proper attention it is
delicious indeed. Last year I tried
lima beans and found them a de-
lightful change from the ordinary

asparagus bed. That is a little
larger project, because one should
wait the three or four years ad-
vised before really cutting. How-
ever, from fifteen roots planted
years ago, I reap a harvest of a
store -sized bundle or more, every
other day until nearly the last of
June.
If you wish to interest your chil-
dren in gardening. I suggest a
package of gourds. They are a
source of continual surprise when
they begin to form, as one never
knows what colour or shape the
next one will be. Are they edible?
No. but have uses galore. Beyond
just the fun of growing they can
be used at Thanksgiving for dec-
oration, and at Hallowe'en for
really unusual jack -o -lanterns. Even
at Christmas time, the ones with
the right shape can be cut and
painted red for Christmas bells. In
their native country they are used
for dishes and dippers. The child -

P.P,S.
There are two types of garden-
ers; those who work under pro-
test, and those who, like Mrs.
"P.P;S.", work with visions of
flowers not yet grown before their
eyes. Now to those who see only
the black dirt that gets under
their fingernails, I say this. Lets
face it, girls, for some unknown
reason, perhaps a throwback to
the red Indian, men seem to have
put gardening under the cate-
gory, "women's work." Now I'll
adroit, the idea of rows and rows
of carrots and beets to hoe is not
inspiring but why stick to the
same old vegetables? Brussels

For many a businessman on his way
up, the vital behind -the -scenes link
between the design of his product
and its delivery to the market is the
financial counsel and support he has
had from his B of M Manager. He

You can count on his helpful, in-
