Young Folk Confirmed at St. Peter's
Special Choir Numbers in Service
Sunday, March 30, was a day of
solemn rejoicing at St. Peter's
Lutheran Church. An unusually
large congregation of worshippers
witnessed to 14 young Christians
give expression of their faith and
vow allegiance to Christ and His
Church.
Pastor O. Winter performed the
rite of confirmation and admon-
ished the young Christians, in his
sermon, to remain faithful to their
confirmation vows—assured them
of God's blessing upon them—the
congregation's interest in them—
and urged them to go forth with
a resolute determination to re-
deem the solemn pledges they had
just made.

SUGAR and SPICE
(By W. (Bill) B, T. Smiley)
Frank Tumpane, a Toronto
newspaper columnist of redoubta-
ble valour and unimpeachable in-
tegrity, recently came out with a
column that requires an answer.
Reason is that he doesn't know
what he's talking about.
B
Mr. Tumpane has a trenchant
style and a vigourous vocabulary
that are admirable, ordinarily,
when he is on a subject of which
he has some knowledge. But every
so often, he mounts a horse of a
different colour, lowers his visor
so nothing will distract him, and
gallops off the deep end.
*
When this happens, as one who
has had inuch experience in clamb-
ering out of similar abysses of
ignorance, I feel it is only my duty
to throw him something to cling
to. Like a harpoon maybe.
* ,1
In this particular column, Mr.
Tumpane, wielding his prose like a
sabre, lays about him at the people
who claim they have seen a 'fly-
ing saucer. "Crackpots!" he calls
them "Cultists!" he cries, "Mum-
bo -jumbo!" he mutters. "Hallucin-
ations!" he mutters. "Hallucin-
ations!" he hoots.
k * *
Never mind, fellow cultists, bro-
ther crockpots. Galileo was tor-
tured for trying to reveal the
truth. Darwin was the object of
hatred and abuse. They laughed
at Alexander Graham Bell when
he sat down at the telephone (lit-
tle knowing they'd be paying a
dime for one lousy call in 50+
years), So I guess we can face
the slings and arrows of outrag-
eous columnists.
Tumpane is like the farmers who
snorted: "Dange.d thing's just a
fad!" when the first Model T
went by in a cloud of dust and:
transformed quiet old Nell into a.
bucking bronco. He won't face the
fact that the flying saucer, or Un-
identified Flying Object, as we
crackpots like to call it, is here
to stay.
.1, *
He claims there is not one shred
of evidence to prove that anyone'
has ever seen a flying saucer. I
wonder how much research Mr. T.
did before coming out with that
nice, fat, sweeping statement.
Twenty minutes? Thirty? Or did
the just ask the fellow at the next
desk?
* *
Of course as a conscientious
newspaperman, he checked with
competent authorities before de-
claring that we crackpots are suf-
fering from delusions. Or did he?
Just in case he didn't, I did.
And I can tell our over -emphatic
friend that the Ground Observer
Corps of the RCAF don't sneer at
reports of unidentified flying ob-
jects. They check every flying
