Cardiff Biggest Majority of Career
Elston Cardiff, Brussels farmer,
gained his biggest majority ever(
on Monday, when electors in Hu-,
ron riding went along with the
trend throughout Canada, which
gave the Progressive Conservative
party 209 seats in the House of
Commons. This is the largest num-
ber of seats ever held by any
party since the Confederation of
Canada.
Cardiff defeated his only oppon-
ent, William. G. Cochrane, of Exe-
ter, Liberal candidate, and came
up with a majority of 6,647 votes.
In the election last year, Mr. Car-
diff's majority was only 3,667.
In Hay Township, the voting
was among the heaviest ever re-
corded. 1,204 people exercised their
right to vote. For the first time
in years, a Liberal candidate fail-
ed to receive a majority in Hay,
as each party received an equal
number of the votes.
