FLYERS BID FOR WOAA HOMEBREW TITLE
In winning three straight during the past week, the Flyers have
stamped themselves as the team to beat for the Homebrew "C"
'championship. After winning the first game 9-3 at Clifford, the
Flyers turned on the pressure to• edge Brussels 18-7, and Clifford
15-0, before over a thousand empty seats and several screaming fans
at the Hensall Arena. The ,final game in the round-robin tourney
will be with Brussells, at either Seaforth or Wingham on Saturday
night.
though it has cost the Flyers $30 (not including sticks
and tape) to play the last two home games, they are determined to
carry on in the hope that they may bring home the first WOAA
trophy ever won by an Intermediate Hockey team in Zurich's hockey
• history.
FLYERS (BROOMBALL VARIETY) WIN TROPHY
The Zurich Flyers broonaball team d'ef'eated the Parr Line and
'Chiselhuirst 3-1 and 4-1 respectively, to win the Hensall and district
broomball honours. In the first contest the Flyers rushed to an
early 2,0 lead in the first period on goals by Bob "Sockler" Merner
and Don O'Brien. A terrific 150 foot shat by an unidentified Flyer
ended the scoring for the locals. "Swede" Decker played an out-
standing game in the Flyers nets although he lost his shut -out in
the diving minutes on a powerful dribbler that rolled between his
legs. In the second contest the four goals were divided among, "Jeff"
Geoffrey, Gord Hay, Merner and' O'Brien. Decker again held the
opposition to only one tally. Other players who performed brilliantly
For the champs were Dick Bedard, Junior Merner, and . Wane
Willert,
Rumour has it that the General Coach crew, the "A" champs,
have challenged the Flyers. Both "A" and "B" Division trophies
will: be at stake. It is hoped that some of the veteran' stalwarts,
including "Mike" Gascho, "Red" Theander, and "Flubug" Suplat will
be out to strengthen the team.
STANLEY CUP FINALS BEGIN THIS WEEK
Unless some unpredicted upsets occur, the Montreal Canadiens,
who won the regular season championship quite handily, should go
on to be the holders of the Stanley Cup. This trophy was donated
an honour of Lord Stanley, a foraner Governor General of Canada,
• in 1917, and it has been in competition
ever
have been aenna a as on
of
the winnig teams, including every player,
this coveted cup since its inaugural.
This year the Hans should knock off the Red Wings in six
games while the Ranger -Bruin series could easily go right down to
the wire. .At any rate there promises to be quite a few exciting
contests before this years winner is decided.
SUFFERS SLIGHT CONCUSSION
Jerry Ronnie, starry Flyer rearguard, who suffered a slight
concussion a week ago in the final game with Ilderton, has been
confined to his bed for two weeks. Both fans and teamates join in
wishing Jerry a speedy and complete recovery.
PEE WEES PLAY SATURDAY
The local Peewees will meet Ildertonon Saturday for their first
contest in the Goderich Young Canada Week. They defeated the
highly touted Hensall Peewees 4-1 last week. The decision of Rich-
ard Stade, son of Harold "Gib" Stade, to follow in his fathers foot-
steps and play goal has definitely strengthened the team.

Preparing For
Young Can. Week
Coaches Gordon Block and.
Tack Bannister are rounding their
pee-wees into shape for the Young
Canada Week tournament, which
starts on Saturday for the local
kids.
On Friday night they took their
team out to play the Hensall
gang, and came home with a 41
win over the highly rated team
which last year won the champion-
ship in their category. In the first
period Cameron Witmer and Rob-
ert Bannister were the Zurich
marksmen. Barry Block scared
unassisted in the second period,
and Larry Merner added the final
counter in the third. Noakes sc-
ored the lone Hensall goal. If
this game is an indication of what
these kids can do, we can expect
great things of them in the tourn-
ament.
The Zurich Pee -woes play their
first game of the tourney at 10.15
a.m.. on Saturday morning, with
the Ilderton boys. It is hoped
