Mrs. Clifford Pepper, correspondent
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gilbert and
Mrs. Carl Eckmeir and son Paul,
Stratford, spent Thursday evening
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Courtney Burmiester,
Carl Keller, Mr, and Mrs. Bev-
erley Lindenfield and son, Exeter,
and Keith Keller, London, were
Sunday visitors at the home of
their parents; Mr, and Mrs. Ed.
Keller, and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Rutter and
sans, who have been stationed at
Penhold Air Station in Alberta,
and in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan,
the past three years, arrived in
Ontario last Tuesday. On their
return trip they spent a day at
the home of Mrs, Rutter's brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Pepper, and family, before
continuing their journey to Belle-
ville, where they plan to reside.
Mr. Rutter has been reieased from
the airforce due to ill health.
Miss Ellen , Gilbert, R.N., at
Stratford General Hospital, spent
a few days at the home of Mr,
and Mrs. Courtney Burmeister.
Mrs. Melizza Geiger, Mr. and
Mrs. Delbert Geiger and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Clare Geiger, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack McClinchey, and
family, Mrs. Garnet Jacobi, Mr.
and Mrs. Laird Jacobi, and family,
and Mrs. Alfred Melick were Sat-
urday evening guests at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Urban .Pfile.
Delbert Geiger, Carl Oestriecher
and Clifford Pepper were among
those who attended the annual
County Seed Fair at Clinton, on
Saturday, and report a good sam-
ple of exhibits.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Pepper
and family, were Sunday visitors
at the' home of the former's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs, Roy Pepper,
RR 3, Seaforth.
• Mr. and Mrs. Roman Meidinger
and daughter Linda spent Sunday
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Delmar Meidinger and family.
Miss Helen Horner, London,
spent the weekend at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har-
ald Horner.
The Misses Gertrude and Mel -
vine. Schade and Miss Elaine
Schade, London, and Miss Marg-
aret Schade were weekend visit-
ors at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Schade.
Mr. and Mrs. William Step and
family, St. Agatha, were Sunday
visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard Merner,

Mr. and Mrs. Percy Renner and
David, Bayfield, visited on Sun-
day with Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Campbell.
Mrs. Menno Steckle is spending
this week with her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Abner
Weber, Wal'enstein.
Mrs. Thomas Snowden returned
to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John
Keys, after spending the past

WMS Meeting
The Varna United Church Wo-
man's Missionary Society held
their regular meeting on Wednes-
day afternoon, March 6, at the
home of Mrs. Bill MeAsh, Varna.
The devotional part was taken
by the Front Road, west, group.
A hymn was sung followed' by a
prayer. The Scripture was read
by Mrs. Louis Taylor.
The president, Mrs. Anson Cole-
man, took over the business part
of the meeting. The niinutes of
the last meeting were read by the
secretary, Mrs. Gordon Johnston,
followed by the roll call, which
was to be answered by a verse,
"starting with the first letter of
your first name." A Scripture
verse starting with "Rejoice" is to
,be the roll call for next month.
There were 11 calls to shut-ins in
the home and seven to those in
,the hospital.
It was decided to accept the in-
vitation to Edgmondville United
Church WMS Thank Offering, on
April 16, in the afternoon.
Mrs. Bill McAsh and Mrs. Gor-
don Hill, were selected as dele-
gates to attend the Huron WMS
Presbyterial in Ontario Street Un-
ited Church, Clinton.
A film, "Peter and the Ressur-
rection" is to be presented at Var-
na United Church, on Palm Sun-
day evening, March 30, at 7.30.
Everyone is welcome.
Lunch and a social hour follow-
ed with the Parr Line group assis-
ting the hostess.
Play Enjoyed
' The WA of Varna United Chur-
ch sponsored a play presented by
the Clinton Junior Farmers on
Wednesday evening, March 5. The
play was called "Her First Party
Dress." In addition to the play
the Junior Farmers gave a few
numbers. They are taking their
play to Seaforth, Tuesday evening,
where they will be competing ag-
ainst the Seaforth and Exeter
Junior Farmers with their plays.
Mr. and Mrs. 'Robert Bell, and
Linda, visited Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Keith Lave, and Gregory.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dawson and
family, spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. William Censitt
Quite a number from this dis-
trict attended the Achilles -Taylor
wedding at Walton on Saturday.
The bride is the eldest daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Rolly Achilles,
Walton, and the groom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Taylor,
Staffa.
The Parr Line Broom Ball team
lost their first game with the
General Coach team; the score
being 3-2 for the General Coach,
week with Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Grainger and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Scotch -
mer are spending a few days with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Scotchmer. Raymond is recuper-
ating after a tonsil operation.
Miss Laura Caller, Wingham, a
missionary home on furlough from
Niguia, Africa, spent several days
with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon West-
lake and family.
Phyllis and Jimmie Grainger
were patients in Clinton Public
Hospital, on Tuesday and Wed-
nesday, when they had their ton-
sils removed.
Mrs. Ardell Grainger, Wallace -
burg, spent a couple of days with
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Grainger and
family.
Syrup making is in progress and
a good number of trees have al-
ready been lapped.
GOSHEN NORTH

Open house was held at SS 5,
Stanley, on Thursday, March 6,
in connection with Education
Week. Miss Clark and the pupils
had arranged an attractive dis-
play of their craft work and class
studies.
A short program was enjoyed,
consisting of two dance numbers
by Dianne and Karen McKinley,
two vocal numbers by the Juniors,
a chorus by the pupais, and a
double trio by the seniors.
Miss Clark introduced the guest
speaker, Constable C. A. Hardy, of
the Provincial Police Detachment
at Goderich. Constable Hardy
gave an informative talk on High-
way safety and showed two films
•dipicting safety regulations. A
social hour and lunch followed..
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Armstrong
attended the wedding of the lat-
ter's brother, William. Taylor,
Staffa, to Margaret Achilles, Wal-
ton, on Saturday, March 8.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Erratt
spent several days travelling
through Kentucky and Indiana.
Mr. and Mrs, Jim Coultes and
family, Brussels, spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Keys
and family.
The WA of Goshen is sponsor-
ing a crokinole party in Varna
