Two Sides To Everything
Just as there are two sides to every argument, there are
two main reasons for the existence of a newspaper. A newspaper
presents news of people and things, and it also provides a method
whereby merchants and industrialists can present the story of
their .product to potential buyers.
For the reader of the newspaper, the whole thing is presented
to him in a handy form, the news next to the advertising, and the
whole thing taken together tells him the story of the community
in which the paper is published.
The Citizens News tells the story of Zurich—its people, its
business places, and its churches, schools, clubs and activities. If
the reader pays attention only to the news columns, then he
misses out on about half the story which is told.
Reading the• advertisements is considered to many to be the'
most important part of reading the local paper. It is positively
amazing, to those who have never done much of it, to find such
a wealth of information about their neighbours and their district
from reading the advertisements.
There are two sides to the pleasant chore of reading the local
weekly.
Spring—Just Around The Corner
Winters may be harsh in our land -4n point of fact, winter
may yet be saving up a few big blows. But, spring is just
around the corner, and anticipation of its coming is a heartening
occupation.
We've heard crows now for a couple of weeks. Squirrels
are busy getting some of last fall's hoard out of ground level
storehouses. There is dust in the streets of town—and mud in
the fields. Our country road has a wisely placed layer of new
gravel already.
Housewives are planning their first days of spring house-
cleaning.
Somehow we feel that the weather for candidates and elec-
tioneers will be fairly good right up until Election Day.
However - Spring is still around the corner and Winter
may show its harsh head again yet.
It's swimming time at one of the five crippled children's
camps in the province that are owned and operated by the
Ontario Society for Crippled Children, who annually conduct
the Easter Seal Campaign. By contributing to the Easter teal
Campaign last year, you made it possible for more than 1,200
crippled kiddies to enjoy a three-week summer vacation. The
1958 Easter Seal Campaign has an objective of $750,000 and
runs until April 6.

Oesch Shoe Store Has Great Variety
This store is one of the oldest of the Zurich and District Cham -
established places of business in
Zurich. Milton Oesch purchased
this business from Edward J.
Datars ten years ago. Mr. Dat -
ars, in turn, had purchased the
store from Charles Fritz and Son,
ten years prior to that. Charles
Fritz had conducted the shoe bus-
iness for 40 years.
Previous to buying the shoe
store, Milton had conducted a suc-
cessful barber shop for 16 years.
An accident to his eye forced him
to abandon the barbering trade,
and hence he went into the shoe
store.
Milton has always been a very
active church worker. He is at
present the superintendent of the
E'v+angelical Church Sunday
School. .He is also vice-president
5
ber of Commerce, and a member
of the Boy Scout committee. The
Oesch's have two children, and
Mrs. Oesch takes a very active
part in the operation of the shoe
store.
Oesch's have a very wide range
of all types of shoes; ladies, girls,
children's and men's. They carry
a complete variety of all over-
shoes, rubber boots, etc. Along
with this they have a wonderful
selection of both men and wom-
en's. luggage. Milton alsospec-
ializes in skate sharpening and
shoe repairing.
For quite some time Oesch Shoe
Store has been the local home of
the Miracle Foot Aid Clinic, which
has Geo. Hardman in, attendance
every other Monday.

B of M Personal Chequing Account
Simplifies Paying Monthly Bills
Almost everyone agrees the quickest and safest way of
paying bills is by cheque. Until recently, there have been only
two .types of accounts on which to draw cheques — current
accounts and savings accounts.
Now there's a new type of account 'specially designed by
the Bank of Montreal to meet the needs of husband and wife
who pay by cheque. It's the B of M Personal Chequing Ac-
count, available at the Zurich .branch.
Personal chequing accounts are economical to operate. You
pay nothing in .advance for your cheque-book, the service charge
is only ten cents a cheque. - And there's no charge for deposits
to :your, account as there is wuyth a. current account in wiback,
there's a charge of ten cents for each 'entry. " ' •
With a B of M personal chequing account, you receive a
quarterly statement, instead of a passbook. And your cancelled
cheques, which are held by the bank for 20 years, are readily
available to provide the best possible receipt for the bills you've
paid.
If you'd like to hear more about this convenient new B of M
service, James Wild, accountant at the Zurich branch of the
13 of M will be happy to give you the details. See him soon!
