TIE, DESPITE INJURIES
Although they played the majority of last Friday night's
game in Lucan minus three regulars, the Flyers held the powerful
Lucan Irish to a 2-2 tie. Despite losing 14-1 to the same team a
couple of weeks ago, the inspired Flyers almost turned the tables
on a cocky Irish crew. Murray Baker, who suffered a broken left
wrist, and Bili Yungblut who attained a painful shoulder injury,
were lost to the team from the second period on. In addition,
regular right-winger George. Suplat was not able to play because
of a severe bout with the flu. "Jeff" Geoffrey's excellent goaltending
seemed to inspire the rest of the team as they turned in one of
their best efforts of the season.

WOAA PLAYOFFS
Last year's All -Ontario Midget Champions are on the play-
off trail again. Tonight they play in Lucknow in the second game
of the best two out of three semi-finals. The winning team is to
meet Tara for the WO;AA Midget "D" Ch:ampionship. On Saturday
night the Lions Midgets trounced the Lucknow crew 8-0. The win
'was stricktly a team effort as six players, Geoffrey, Earl Wagner,,
..Johnston, Overholt, Willert and Deichert scored. Dennie Amacher
played a steady game in registering his second straight shutout in
the playoffs.

THE BUMS WILL JE MISSED
The old Brooklyn Dodgers, alias "Bums" will be missing from
this corning baseball season's sportspages. The Dodgers who have
been noted for their zany antics, bottle throwing fans, and color-
ful competitors, will be remembered in baseball annals years to
come. Though the. Dodgers themselves have moved to Los Angeles,
they will have to leave behind Ebbits Field; the scene of many of
baseball's most prized and most •humourous incidents. The unfor-
getable Brooklyn accent and the numerous "Trim Brooklyn" base-
ball anecdotes derived from the Babe Herman, the Wilbert Robin-
son, the Leo Durochers and the Casey Stengals, during his playing
days, will be certainly missed in the sports pages of the years to
w^ome.
Here's an example of dat Brooklyn accent.
A sports announcer broadcasting a baseball game in Brooklyn
told his audience the news that Babe Herman had popped a fly to
Don Hurst, thus:
"Holman hersted to Hoist."
By the way this was the same Herman who misjudged a fly
ball and had it bounce off his head.

ROCKET STILL IGNITED
After a three month layoff due to a serious gash in his achilles
tenden, Maurice "Rocket" Richard perennial Canadien's star, cele-
brated his return to the hockey wars by banging home two goals,
the 505th and 506th of his NHL career in leading the Habitants to
their 4-0 shutout over Boston. The fabulous Rocket has garnered
13 goals and 14 assists in only 17 games this season. At this rate
he would have scored 45 goals and 49 assists for a total of 94 points
had he been able to play all 60 games so far. His linemates Dickie
Moore and "Pocket Rocket" Richard, who are well ahead of the
rest :of the league in scoring, have totaled about 70 points each this
season. Opposing goaltenders probably figure he should have been
called "The Satellite," for, unlike a rocket, he seemingly will not
burn out.

SPORTS POST SCRIPTS
PRINCE OF WALES CUP
The Prince of Wales Trophy, presented to the NHL champ-
ions each year, has only been won once by Toronto and New York,
and never by Chicago Black Hawks, since 1938-39 when the NHL
became one division. The Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal
Canadiens have monopolized the trophy for over a decade,
VEZINA TROPHY WINNERS
If Jaques Plante wins the Vezina Trophy this season for al-
lowing the fewest goals against, he will become the first goalie to
win it three times in a row since Bill Duman, former Hab great,
captured it four times in a row.
FINAL STANDINGS
Unless several unprecenden upsets occur it looks as if Mont-
real, New York, Detroit and Boston will be the Stanley Cup con-
tendors for 1957-58. Weekend losses by both Toronto and Chicago
.severely hurt their playoff chances for this season.

With Lucan Irish

passing, and good checking on
both teams.
Murray Baker., opened the scor-

on an unassisted goal. Time and
time aagin both goaltenders turn
ed in some brilliant saves, as

er Bayham gave Lucan a 2-1 lead.
Near the end of the period Ken
Parker tied the score for Zurich
on the nicest .play of the night,
with Don and Doug O'Brien assis-
ting. The three players passed
the puck back and fourth nicely
from their own end right through
to the Lucan goal.
The third period and the 10
minute overtime session both went
scorless. Injuries hit the Zurich
team in the third frame, with
Murray Baker breaking his arm
and Bill Yungblut pulling muscles
