ST. JOSEPH'S
RYS p ALE
(Ey AL Fred Ducharme)
Comments: The month of Jan-
uary has passed away and already
we are in the middle part of the
?winter. January, the month of
snow and wind has been much dif-
ferent this year than the aver -
.age with little snow to contend
with. In all it was much better
+ta get around, not having to wade
waist deep in snow. We also mis-
sed out on our January thaw.
Perhaps it may be a score of
years before we are greeted with
an other month of January as the
past one. The past Christmas was
a green one over most part of our
land indicating an open winter.
A green winter for some means a
rich grave yard. The general be-
lief is that germs are more com-
mon in the air causing i11 health
and ending in more deaths than in
a winter which has a white
Christmas.
To those of a superstitious char-
acter they will be ill at ease for
the remaining weeks of the win-
ter; or until the balmy spring .fir
again giveslife and vigour to all.
So, in the meantime, let us wait
and, see, let' us not worry too
much before we are stricken, far•
whatever will happen only time
will tell.
The Corriveau Bridge an this
highway has now been complete
and is open for traffic. The win-
ter so far has been favourable for
road work, and will be an advan-
cement for next summer,

On. Sunday last, February 2,
was Candlemas day, and better
known in the forecasting world as
ground hog day. If the hiberna-
ting little creatures prophecy
comes true then the last period
of the winter will be of short dur-
ation; for only in mid-day and on-
ly for a short time was the ground
hog able to see his shadow. So
there you have it.
