'The steak rolls are particularly yoto d need that for at tiespecial something brighten up the main course of the meal. Snickerdoodles Mix 1 cup shortening or 34 cup of each butter and shortening 11/2 Cups sugar 2 eggs Sift together and stir in: 23/4 cups sifted flour (I use all purpose flour) 2 teasp. cream of tartar 1 teasp. soda 1/2teasp. salt, Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of a small walnut. Roll in 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet, Bake until light brown, but still soft, at 404° temperature from 8-10 minutes. Steak Rolls 11/2 to 2 lbs round steak (cut 1/2 inch thick) 1/2 cup finely chopped onions 1/2 cup cut-up bacon 1 teasp, salt dash of accent and pepper Pound steak on both sides, cut into pieces of about 21/2" x 3". On each piece put some chopped on- ions and bacon, roll up and fasten with toothpicks. Roll in seasoned flour and brown in hot fat. Then pour 2 cups bailing water or 1 can tomato or mushroom soup diluted with 1 cup hat water aver meat rolls. Season, cover and sim- mer slowly until tender from 1- 11/ hours. Brownies 1,4 eup shortening (preferably crasco) 2 oz. Baker's chocolate 3¢ cup of sifted. all purpose flour 1 teasp. baking powder '1/4 teasp. salt 2 eggs 1 cup sugar 1 tease: vanilla 1 map coarsely chopped nuts Melt chocolate and shortening ov- er hot water, cool, then add 2 lightly beaten eggs and the sugar. Sift together flour, baking pow - Lutheran Ladies January Meeting The January meeting of the St. Peter's Lutheran Ladies Aid was held in the basement of the chur- ch on Tuesday evening with 25 ladies and one visitor and the pastor present Mrs. Whitney Brokenshire act- ed as chair -lady for the program which opened with the singing of a hymn "We Three Kings of Or- ient Are." • Epiphany Versicles were read responsively and a prayer by Mrs. A. Turkheim. A duet was sung in German by Car- ol Fischer and Mary Ellen Thiel. A poem was read by Mrs. Ed. Haberer entitled "In His Name." The singing of another hymn "Jesus Still Lead On", was accom- panied by Mrs. Jack Turkheim. Two films were shown by Mrs. Winter, namely "Jewish Religion" and "Four Great Churches in Uhn Germany, St. Mark's Italy; Wells, England and T3ourges, France." The president, Mrs. Annie Fink- beiner took the chair for 1he bus- iness. The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting. The treasurer gave her report and the Sunshine Club reported packing 31 Good Cheer Boxes for Christ- mas that were delivered to the sick and shut-ins. Corresponden- ce was read after which Pastor Winter took charge of the elect - tion of officers. Re-elected were Mrs. A. Fink- beiner, president; Mrs. Whitney, vice-president; treasurer, Mrs. A. Turkheim, and pianist, Mrs. Jack Turkheim. Due to the resignation of the secretary, Mrs. E. Haberer, the office has been filled by Mrs. Ed.. Datars. Pastor Winter thank- ed Mrs. Ed. Haberer for her faithful serivice in the past years, this was approved by the organ- ization with a hearty hand clap. Miles (By our lionsall correspondent) Douglas Miles, agricultural re- presentative. for Huron County, was guest speaker at the Christ- mas meeting of Hensall Women's Institute, when the Zurich In- stitute were special guests. Mr. Milesspoke on the changes in ag- riculture down through the years and the problems they had brought. "The foundation laid by, our fore fathers, made possible our achievements of today. Times are changing," he said. "Science has speeded up production during recent years. We should,' know just a little of what goes on be- hind the products which we buy."
