Former Clinton Publisher Dies
George E. Hall. 81, who cued at
Clinton 'en Monday last, was a
?Iformerowner and nuhlisher of The
aClinton News -Record. Born in Sirkle,O,
e learned the printing trade at that
place and later worked at other •pla-
' ces. He went to Clinton in 1906 and
•i.e; bought the News -Record t'aper in
1916 and retired in 1945. •Surviving
are two sons, .Ernest, Toronto: Gord-
o• n Cayuga, one ,daughter, E-velyn,
• librarian of 'Clinton library and one
VD isiater, Mrs. Kirby, New Liskeard.
Mr. Roy Weber a London was a

?Prompt efforts of ,Wingham firemen
averted what ,could have become a
serious fire at The Wingham Advan-
ce -Times, the weekly newspaper of
that Town. The fire broke out Sat-
urday at 4 a.M. 'above the prmting
plant, an apartment occupied by Mrs
Robert Wenger, Sr., mother of Barry
Wenger, the publisher; Mrs. Wenger
was awakened when the living room
was ablaze and phoned for the fire
department •from her bedroom, she
then made her way down a •statrway
tothe street in night attire. Consid-
erable, damage was done by dousing
on water to get the fire under con-
trol. Machinery in the printing
',plant escaped major damage, except
, for water trouble. Damage to the ap-
artment is estimated at $700. Orig-
