On Saturday midnight, the clocks
in a number of cities in Canada as
well as the U. S. A. were turns& an

OBITUARY
Death of Mrs. Thomas Bicknell
The death occurred in Scott Mem-
orial Hospital, Seaforth, on Sunday
morning, September 22nd, of Mrs.
Thomas Hicknell, following an ilIness
of four weeks from typhoid fever.
The deceased was a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Luke Nigh, of Egmondville
and was born at St. Joseph 31 years
ago. As a child she carne with her
parents to Seaforth, and the greater
part of her life was spent tirm'e.
Nine years ago she was united in
marriage to Thomas IIicknell, who
survives her, together with a Wilily
of two small children, and to whom
the sympathy of all is extended in
their great bereavement. S;ie is also
survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs
Luke Nigh; four sisters, and six bro-
thers. The funeral was held from the
home of her parents on Tuesday
morning to . St. James Church and
was very Iargely attended. Requiem
High Mass was sung by Rev. Father ,
T. P. Hussey, followed by interment
in St. James Cemetery, Seaforth.
A Bad Accident
One woman was critically hurt and
five other occupants of two motor
cars that collided on the Grand Bend
Crediton road, in Huron County, we-
re less seriously injured early on Sun
day afternoon. Mrs. David Gerom-
ette, of Stephen Township, and for-
mer residents of St. Joseph, Hensall
and Zurich, now living near Mount
Carmel, is at her home with a fract-
ured skull and injury to her side,
suffered as she was hurled from the
car driven by her son Norman. The
son escaped with bruises and minor
cuts but her husband had a wounded
in his head that required 16 stitches.
In the other car, driven by R. Rood -
din, of Londoon, with his wife and
Walter Ramer of London as passen-
gers, all the occupants suffered shoeh
and bruises but were able to be tak-
en home. Roedding was driving west
towards Grand Bend about 1 p.m. as
the Geromette car came north at the
Khiva corner.. They met at the inter-
section and the impact cremolished
the car driven by. young Gerornette,
hurling the father and mother, ae
well as the driver, on the road. Ro-
edding's car was rolled completely
over down the road, but the passer" -
,ors remained within and ware not
seriously burt. The accident was in-
vestigater; by Traffc Officer Norman
Lever of Clinton. No immediate clam-

Mr. Albert Hess has recently had
a fine new cottage erected at Duch-
arxie's grove, which will be very con-
venient in the warm summer months.
Appointed Bailiff at Zurich
Mr. Ward Fritz has been appoint -
bailiff of the 10.th division court of
Huron County,—Seaforth News.
Mrs, Barbara Gerber of the 13ron-
Ion line, who has recently returned
from Kitchener, where she under
went an operation, is now at Toronto
where she is taking some radiurr
treatments, Mrs. Gerber is much
improved in health.
Many Visitors to Britain
Over 3000 more American visitor.;•
Great Britain during this July than
in July 1934, it has been announced
by the Travel and Industrial Devel-
opment Association. The total n umb-
er of foreign visitors durinc; that
month was 54,362, of which 16,891
came from the United States.
A Porcupine in C ocierich
A porcupine strayed far from its
natural haunts, was teed in Co --
House Park Goderich on Wednesday.

seen a porky" before. The animal
was lassoed by John McLean and re-
moved ii a cardboard box. It was
the first time, at any rate for many
years, that a porcupine had been
seen in Gocrarich. Residents are at a
loss to exp'ain its presence.

In Magistrate's Court 1'
On being found gr'"-- of tt,e theft
of a Goderich car and being in pos-
session of burglar's tools, Jack Smith
17 -year-old London youth, at Goder-
ich on Thursday was sentenced to 2
years in Portsmouth penitentiary by
Magistrate J. A. Makins. Sentences
were concurrently. Although Smith
admitted trying to escape jail at God
erich, a charge was not preferred.
Smith stated that he made two mas-

on him when he was arrested, at Lan

old London youth, arrested oon Sun-
day last, escaped a police officer at
the doors of the jail and eluded the
law after a half mile foot race. The di

Newman, of London was picked up

panion of Jack Smith. Kenneth
McLean, of Sea:fort.i, is facing a hit -
an l -run charge a> a result of an
accident at the Brucefield intersect-
ion on riday evening, in which he
is alleged to have struck a London
car and fled 'the scene in his truck.
He was arrested in Seaforth. The
Londoh car, driven by L. S. Weldon
contained three London ladies, was
rolled over on its top by the impact.

the week -end with his brother Ches-

Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Pfile of Mt.
Clemens spent a few days with re-
latives last week.
Death of William Held.
William A. Held died at his home
here on Tuesday, Sept. 24th follow-
ing a paralytic stroke which he suff-
ered last Friday. He was in his 58th
year and previous to the stroke had
enjoyed his usual good health. He is
survived by his widow who was for-
merly Miss Margaret McEachen and
three daughters, Margaret, Sadie and
Evangeline, all at home. Also there
are four sisters Mrs. Henry Miller,
Dashw000d, Mrs. George Sinnot, Lon
don, Misses Marbara and Maggie of
Dashwood. The funeral service was
held on Friday morning at St. Boni-
face, R. C. church, Zurich with Rev.
Father L. W. Power officiating. In-
terment took place in Zurich R. C.
cemetery. Those who attended the
funeral from a distance were: Mrs.
Elizabeth Held and Norman Olcott,
N. Y.; Andrew Held of Buffalo N.Y;
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morenz and
Grace, Mrs. C. Webster and two dau-
ghters Mrs. Hadis and Miss Margaret.
