BEAN GROWERS MEET
.. The county meeting of the bean ivtne at storage warehouses, Surd by
growers of Huron County, was held a system of measurement and caIcu-
in the Town Hall, Hensel' on At: -
ust 14th, under the auspices of the
Western. Ontario Bean Marketing
Scheme, for purpose of reporting on
the operations of the scheme and the
election of delegates to seiect the
new local board for the coming yr.
The chair was taken by Mr. Geiger
A report on the operations of the
Scheme was given by Mr. Carroll, a
member of the Board, also J. W.
Ward, Chairman. Cnsiderable dige
cussion took place on how the scheme
could be improved and the difficulties
with which the Board were having to
contend. It was intimated by some of
She speakers that beans were act -a-
lly being purchased by the dealer,
from the grower, in the southern co-
unties for $1.25. The meeting went
on record as being unanimously in
favor of the continuance of the mer-
chandising of beans under the Natur-
il Products Marketing Act: A vote is
•:o be taken before the new crop is
'tarv'ested, as to whether the Scheme
,will continue or otherwise, depend on
row the farmers vote. The follow-
lig
ollowlig candidates were elected to reeve-.
rent the county of Huron at the an-
tual meeting to take place in the
Sear future for the purpose of el-
-cling the new Board: Mr. Geiger,
vir. Hendrick, Mr. Denmme. Arrang-
nents were made to hold some sural-.
r meeting's at such points as Zurich
:ashwood, Crediton,. and Clinton.
'ccs of these meetings w.:i be g.v-

STEVENS PARTY IN NORTH
HURON
Supporters of the Stevens Recon-
struction party in North Huron held
a caucus in the Bedford hotel Goder-
ich. last week. It is understood that
this meeting was preliminary to a
public ineeting to be held at some
point in the riding later on. The mat-
ter of placing a candidate in the field
has been under discussion, but notI.i-
ing definite was done. In the mean-
time, a possible candidate for the
party. has appeared in the person of
Miss Josie Sounders of Goderich.
Miss Saunders, who is a proressional-
ly trained, experienced social worker,
thinks that a third party, which has
been born as the result of the inact-
ivity of the two old parties, is the
only effective remedy against further
inaction of the next administration.
Miss Saunders states: "This party
along with the C.C.F., and other
groups, will be an additional guaran-
tee against .further inaction of the
next administration in dealing with
the real problems confronting the
country today. It is better to follow
a leader who has had the courage to
change his mind regarding the tariff
question and who will continue to
bght'for the fanners, the workers,.
and the small business men, than to
Mon the old party lines."
