Died at County Home
Mark. Mason. for many years a
resident of E. Wawanosh, passed a-
wvay in the County Horne at Clinton,
where he had been an inmate for a
few weeks only. Owing to ill health
during the .past winter he found it
necessary to vacate his farm, Con.
4, He .came to Blyth and made his
home 'with his brother, until he went
to the County Home.

Engagement

Mildred Mary Allman, eldest daught-
er of Mrand Mrs. Paul Allman of
St. Thomas, to Harvey Elmer Coop-
er, son. of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Coop-
er., Clinton, the marriage to take
place in St. Marys on Sept. 21st.
Native of Colborne Passes.
The death occurred at her home in
Goderich, on Aug. 15th, of Mrs. Jas:
McClure, who was born nearly 89
;ears ago on her father's farm in the
township of Colborne. Her parents
were the late Peter Fisher, she being
the third daughter in a family of U.
She is survived by three daughters
and three sons.
A Pried Bell
Wesley Dearing, Exeter, has in!
his possession a dinner hell that has
been handed down from his parents,
which is possibly over 100 years old..
The bell was: used by• the late Isaac
Carling, Sr., who in the early years
owned considerable land on the west
side of town. The bell was . used by
him at his ,tannery. In appearance it
is of bright silver color, has a far-
reaching tone, and is highly prized
by its owner.
Car is Sideswiped
Last Wed. eve. •while Dr. and Mrs_
Fletcher of Exeter, were returning
froni Grand Bend, they had a narrow
escape from a serious accident when
their ear was sideswiped by a hit-and-
run driver cm his way to the Bend.
The accident occurred near Maple
Grove. where the road is especially
wide. Three cars were in line on their
way to the Bend and the first of the
three pulled towards the doctor's
car. Seeing the car headedfor them
the doctor pulled to the side of the
road and was almost stopped when
.the other car sideswiped him damag-
ing-,
amaging both fenders and running board.
A. second car from Elora, narrawly
escaped being struck.
W. W. Cooper Injured
W. W. Cooper, well known hitch-
hiking candidate or Huron -Perth, re-
ceived a real»shacking up when he was
knocked •down by a car, half exile:

He was taken to Hensall where he
received medical attention, but (fid
not regain consciousness• until after
