Ai 'IL ;1CH - RA _D Ray Council will meet on Monday for its April meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Heideman and family were Sunday visitors with friends at Kitchener. Mr. ' Charles Bartlett, Teller of the Bank of Montreal, spent the we- ek -end at his home in St. Marys. Mr. and- Mrs: Gid Koehler, Mrs. Wellington Johnston and Ruth, spent Sunday with friends at Kitchener and Baden. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Willert of near Hensall, were Sunday visiioas at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George. Hess of town. At' the annual business meeting of the Evangelical church, Rev E. Burn received a cordial invitation tq continue his service here. .Mr. and ;Mrs. Leon Jeffrey who. spent the winter months with their children at Windsor and ` Chatham., have returned to their home on the Blue Water Highway, half mile south of St. Joseph Miss Jessie MacDonald, who some'! weeks ago was taken to London and operated on, returned to Zurich 'on Sunday • and is eonvalscent at her boarding place, Mrs. Lydia Pfile It• will be some weeks before Miss Mac- Donald will be able to resume her profession as teacher of Room ,III` of Zurich school. Mr. Christ. Bechler of the Bron- son line, stanley advised us the other day that he has .a four weeks old small pig which upon examination proved to be sexless. The pig , is in normal health and size as the rest of the litter, only no trace of sex can be found. The merchants of town who stored. dutch set onions for the,,winter, are, busily engaged getting them ready for the market and shipments. The onions have wintered fairly well,, as we had a rather steady winter, and in general they do not show ae many sprouts as one would expect,. owing to the warm weather recently. The early season is probably anoth incideat in their favor, as we are several weeks earlier than usual. Coniderable comment has been made with March coming like a lamb and going out like a lion, but it must` give a big change to be lionlike from, now till Sunday, as the weather from day to day is real nice and bright, :art the cool March winds are blow - ng and the land is drying off- Dere and there we hear of people starting o work on th land where it is 1 iah }ud_ Ia3ht,.,:.'G3a.n..xnaz7, r.o las ter. I win bout a thing of the past, so we go from one stage to another and soon we will be planning our garden ' for. the summer of 1935. The spring season is ushering in the "clean-up" season, and already we notice ash piles removed and the other day a villager was welding the garden rake on the lawn. It is a lime motto to get at it early, but it is a little dangerous to flowers to have their winter protection of dry leaves removed so rapidly when these night:; there is still considerable frosts. It would help the appearance of town somewhat if Liao local road :ommission a:, Mr. Clarence Datare :ou1d locate an idle grader to shape: up the streets of town. However, just a little time and this will be a thing of reality. ELECTION •OF EV. LEAGUE OFFICERS At the annual meeting of the Y. P League of the Evangelical church the following officers were elected:_ President, Garfield Witmer; Vice- Pres., Beatrice Gascho; Secretary, Ruby Church; Treasurer, Milverne Geiger; Corresponding Secy., Mtte Smith; Organist, Pearl" Gabel; Assis- tant, Grace Meyers; Librarian, Claire Geiger. Rev. E. Burn presided. The League meets every Tuesday even- ing at 8 o'clock. ENJOYING THE SOUTH Friends of Mrs. C. Eilber heae in Zurich have been receiving communi- cations from her stating that she and her cousin, Mrs. Gibson of Stratford are having a most beautiful 'time in the sunny south, at St. Petersburg, Florida. The weather . is just like summer up here in Ontario; large numbers are daily in bathing, and the many open air carnivals and en- tertainments is within itself worth- while to go and see. Some real beautiful landscapes on post cards surely make it a heaven of comfort when we up north here are shivering with cold. Our office was in receipt of a copy of the St. Petersburg Times, edition of Sunday, March 17, the issue was in six sections and con- sisted of 64 -pages, then there; were some colored "funnies" in. addition.., It looked to us like a week's job to read it all. • however, everything was interesting, especially the, many'. pages of advertisements, both of merchandise and amusement. Stat- istics tell us that this year's turist business in Florida surpasses anyth- ing in former years. And now that the weather is getting warn up here in. Ontario there will be a Targe in- flux of turists withing a few months of people leaving the hol; south for cooler climates. Truly a wonderful age we are living in. Mi. and ldzu. Garnet Daters and daul iatcr Marjorie, of Dunville, we- re week -end visitors with relatives here. Mr. S. W. Archibald, engineer of London, was recently engaged in laying out lots on the lake' front ad- joining the farm of Mr. Frank Cor- riveau, at Drysdale. Mr. Gorriveau has already sold a number of lots and has prospects of selling several more The lake front along this place is an ideal location for summer homes, be- ing well wooded and has a fine beach at the lake front. Mr. Edward Datars Jr., of the west end of town is making vast improve- ments in the rebidding. of his dwell- ing house the interior is being com- pletely changed, the kitchen is torn off, and when completed will be very modern and have an .entirely differ- ent appearance. Mr. Edward Beav- er eaver on the opposite side oft he street. we understand, is going teen:take sim- ilar renovations to his dwelling, only he intends moving it back from the street somewhat. These impro- - ments not only contribute to the comforts of the owners, but also greatly add to the appearance of that part of the village.
