Preserve Wild Flowers
The wild flower situaton in Ont-
ario is becoming serious,and rcal@'s,fimr
efa,reful conservation before they be-
come extinct in some sections. :Re-
cently the Ontario HartieuituraI As-
sociation sponsored a request to the
Ontario Government that tee "Wil-
liam." be constituted the Provimdial
Flower. Very favorable• comment has
been made .by the Press in many se-
ctions of the Province. Parents, Tea-
chers, Scout Leaders and interested
flower -lovers are invited: to urge the
children to refrain from wholesale
picking and destruction of wild flow-
-ers, especially where only a few ex-
ist. Girls and boys xraaj greatly as-
ist in saving the wild. flowers, and
jparents are asked to -give the matter

About Gasoline Tax
'There was no gasoline tax collect-;
ed in Canada until 1922, when Alb -i
erta, started the parade with a levy'
of two cents 'a gallon. By 1928 every
province in the Dominion had im-
posed a tax . on gasoline and the
rates were rapidly rising. To -day the
levy is now eight cents a gallon in
Prince Edward Island, New. Bruns-
wick and Nova Scotia, seven cents in
Manitoba and British Columbia with
Saskatchewan and Alberta about to
Glasses? jump to the same figure, and six.
cents in Ontario and Quebec.
