on Monday evening when the fallow-
ing games were played: Hensallvs
Grand Bend„ score 6-2 in favor of
the former; Zurich and Crediton 5-1
in favor of the former, and then the
final for champion, Hensall 1 and
Zurich 0. These games were in-
teresting indeed and some good hoc-
key was shown.
HOSPITAL RE-OPENENS
The Clinton Public Hospital was THE NEW WARDEN

It is reported that a good way to
keep• water pipes from freezing and
might save many families large bills
for bursted service linea during the
frigid winter is as follows: If an
equal quantity of vaseline and para -
fine wax are melted together applied ,
with a brush to the pipes which have g
been carefully wiped. The water in I

weather, it is said. The mixture can

HAfBDR DREDGING
Word has been received at Goder-
ich that the estimates brought down
on the House at Ottawa last week,
provided for the expenditure of
$32,300 o.i dredging the harbor of
Goderich this spring. This informat-
ion was welcomed, meaning, as it
does, the distribution or muc;i of the
amount for wages locally. It is t:.'.:•
en as a sign of improving times and
is said to be one result of the trips
made by ex. Mayor Lee to Ottawa
last summer on harbor business.

convenient in practically every part

an electric elevator, a new heating
plant, new floor covering and rede-

hostess at a charmingly arranged tea
at her home on Saturday, January
19th, from four to six o'clock in
honor of Mrs. Ward Fritz, formerly

were later received in the drawing -
room by the hostess and guest of
honor. Tea was served in the draw-
ing -room where the table was lovely
with a filet lace cloth, , yei;ow tapers
and centrepiece of daffodils. Mrs.
H. K. Eilber poured and Mrs. Charles
Fritz of Zurich, cut the ices. Assist-
ing were Miss Laura Clark and Miss
Helen Telfer. At the concrusion of
the tea hour the gifts were present-
ed to the bride by Donald Campbell,
young son of the hostess.

• Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Bayfield
Agricultural Society was head in the
Town Hall, Wednesday afternoon,
Jan. 16th, when there was a good
attendance of members. W. W. Wise
was appointed chairman. An encour-
aging report of the years' proceed-
ings was given by the Secretary.The
auditors' report showed a balance on
hand of over $235.00. The officers

A committee was appointed to arran-
ge for the Annual Fancy Dress Car-
nival to be held Easter Week. The
date of the Fair was set for the last
Wednesday and Thursday in Sept-
ember. As a special attraction it was
proposed to have a football game or
softball game and a committee was
appointed to have grounds prepared
in the spring.
HOCKEY NEWS
KILLED IN ACCIDENT
Word was received of the unfor-
tunate auto accident in which Miss
Esther Eilber, 27, native and resident
of Crediton until three years ago,
was killed instantly on Jan. 23rd in
a motor accident near Detroit, Mich.
such word being received by her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Bilber, of
Crediton. Miss Eilber went from
Crediton to Detroit, where she grad-
uated in nursing,. from Grace Hosp-
ital, and had since been engaged in
the nursing profession.. The funeral
was held at Crediton on Sunday from
the home of her parents to the Evan-
gelical cemetery for interment. Rev.
E. A. Pletch officiating. It seems the
oar in which she was riding was mak-
ing a right hand turn on the Nine
Mile road, near Detroit, at Burger,
when it was struck by a car driven
by Deputy Sheriff Wilson of Oak-
land County. Her death was due to
a fractured skull.

The wedding of Greta Ei elyn,: se-
cond daughter of Mrs. Clara Graham
Merner, of London, to Edward Win.
Kurtz, took place in St. John's Ch-
urch, Highland Park, Michigan, on
Saturday, December 29th, 1934. Mrs.
Kurtz was born at Zurich and at-
tended Seaforth schools and is well
known at Seaforth, and also at Zur-
ich, being a niece to Mr. J. 'W. Mer-
ner
exner of town. Her father, Vie late J..
l'. Merner was a former resident of
Zurich, as well as a prominent bus-
iness maty, and was .a former member
