Mr. Leonard Sararas of the Blue
Water Highway is spending a week

Rev. Kurkhoff, wife and family of
Philipsburg were Sunday visitors at
the home of Rev. and Mrs. E. Tuerk-
heim.
1VIr. and Mrs. Charles Mink, Mr.
and Mrs. George Mink of Deeboro;
were Sunday visitors at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gascho.
The Stratford District of the Ev.
Lutheran church had an all round
change in pastors last Sunday. The
Local pastor, Rev. E. Tuerkheim ser-
ved at Philipsburg and New Ham-
burg, while Rev. Kurkhoffer of Phil-
ipsburg served Zurich congregation.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lever and
son Norman, of Clinton, gave us a
friendly call Wednesday. The form-
er, who is County Traffic Officer, me
with the serious accident on the Dash-
wood road about three months ago,
when his motor cycle took to the
ditch with the result that Mr. Lev-
er had a bad fracture of the leg. It
is now healing nicely and Mr. Lever
can be up and around but dare not
Out any weight on the leg. But in
the matter of a few months will be
tself again.

Mr. Jacob Haberer of town, who
has been up in northern Ontario,
about 300 miles north of Toronto,
on a hunting trip, arrived back
home on Saturday evening with .a
most beautiful specimen of deer, and
Mr. Haberer is remembering his fri-
ends with a piece of venison. If it
were legal to shoot deer in these parte
one would not need to go so far away
to get a deer, as some farmers in
the Township see them almost daily,

one time, and farmers say it does
lot help their next year's crop any
by being grazed off by those- gentle
'idle creatures who inhabited these
parts long before the white man.

EXETER MAN SENTENCED
Goderich, Nov. 13—Having plead-
ed guilty a week ago and on remand
for sentence. Herman Doerr, default-
ing treasurer of Exeter Public Util-
ities Commission, was this afternoon
sentenced to serve one month in jail
by Judge T. M. Costello in county
criminal court. The sentence is dat-
ed back to November let, the prison-
er having already served two weeks.
Doerr's offence as mentioned last
week was theft of three H.E.P.C.
bonds of $1,000 each which he took
to cover his marginal account with
his broker. He was eventually sold
out. Reference was made that up to
the time of this happened he was one
of the leading men of the conununity
Crown Attorney D. E. Holmes said
he could not see nus way clear to re-
commend suspended sentence and
His Honor agreed with this. "You
have suffered a severe mental pun-
ishment. Your appearance leads me
to believe you have been almost
sufficiently punished. There was no
criminal intent," said the judge in
part. Doerr kissed his wife and
shook hands with Counsel J. E.
