Cornish, of Elimville, was badly lac-
erated and bruised Sunday last when
caught between a car and a corner
of the house of N. Hannigan. H. Mor
ris of Sarnia, was backing out of the
driveway and believing the roan clear
did not notice Jackie, standing on the
Walk. The rear of the car was going
on an angle towards the building
When the fender caught Jackie roll-
ing him, along the wall_ Several st-
anding nearby who saw the accident
called out only through the prompt-
ness of the driver in stopping the car
was Jaclde saved from being cruch-
ed to death. The lad suffered from
concussion of the brain, a badly
wrenched and bruised hip and lacer-
ations and bruises about the head,
hands and body and also from :shock
Runaway Car
Last Monday night, while leaving
the bowling green Seaoftrh, Dr.
lBechley's car stalled on Main street
and while being pushed to release
the starter, the motor suddenly star-
ted and the car went away with a
rush and without the driver and pas-
sengers. In front of the Commercial
Hotel the ear wrapped itself around
a large telephone pole and was some
what badly damaged.
Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Cowen; Mr.
and Mrs. Ev. Hoist; Misses Olive
O'Brein and Pearl Wurtz attended
the big Century of Progress Exhib-
ition at Chicago over the week -end.
They left here Friday noon .and re-
turned Monday noon, taking the
railway train, and report a most
wonderful time, and the fair was
well patronized.
COUNTY NEWS
Elevator Busy
The Goderich Elevator and Tran-
sit Co., has received a lot of wheat
for storage lately and sent some a-
way. On Aug. 31 the Ontadoc bro-
ught 219,000 bushels and for days
later the MVlondoc took 81,000 bush-
els of American wheat from Chicago
while on Sept. 10th, the G. G. Post
arrived from the same port with 175-
000 bushels more. On Wed. the S.B.
Way brought another shipment of
265,000 bushels from the Chicago
elevators. This is a total of 877,000
bushels received, all from American
sources, since the end of August..,

born at Merrickville, 92 years ago.
As a child she came with her par-
ents to Hibbert tu,, the family Being
one of the first to settle in St, Col-
umban district. 08 years ago she was

Death of Mrs. Strong
There passed awey in Tuckersmith
on Saturday last Mary Kyle, beloved
wife of the late Geo. ,aGrong, who
predeceased her in January, she was
born in Tuckersmith in 1867, and was
the eldest daughter of the late Wm..
Kyle. The deceased spent her life-
time in her native township and left
to mourn her loss two daughters,
Mrs. H. Moore with whom she had
made her home for the past year;
hits, Iyan Forsythe and one son,
William of the staff of the Ottawa
public school; one sister, Mrs. Will
Chesney, of Cartwright; and a broth-
er, Thoxnas Kyle of Hensall.
