in Ingersoll was :the guest' of an old
friend and neighbor, Mrs. John
Whitecombe of the Ingersoll machine
shop. May say I seen a very up-to-
date Canadian Machine Shop, good
for the size of Ingersoll. Machines
for everything and everything for a
machine. Also allow me to state that'
while staying' at the big city of Tor-
onto I made it my business to visit
first hand the Chippewa Pbwer de-
velopment and to see just exactly
what is going on there. I may say
that'I found to my eternal sorry tnd
to the eternal detriment of the coun-
try the dynamos, 14 in number, :on-
ly two running. The others shut down:
nights, now that's that. I made
much of hydro during mycampaign
in the election and find indeed that
it needs looking into.' -It needs tO
put at the real service of the countrY;
it was originally intended to serve:
The way it is now' run it is neither
serving the country, or giving serve
ice for investment in its developm-
ent. What is wanted it that rates
should be placed within reach of far-
mers. The idea should be to sell hy-
dro. Farmers would be the biggest
users of hydro if they could afford it.
Hydro should be a provincially own-
ed and operated system and no other.
It should he put at the service of all
at coat. No »rofits for speculatois
in hydro. The bottonisttqUld be

Dominion Government to accept re-
sponsibility for one-third of labor
costs under the unemployment re-
lief scheme. 150 men are now em-
ployed on the roads are better satis-
fied and are doing better work as
result of the increase in pay from
20 gents to 25 cents per hour with a,
reduction in working hours from 10
to 8 hours daily. County Engineer
Roy Paterson remarks that the cha.7
age has been beneficial in every way
