on the school grounds of S.S.No.14,

are going forward. A great deal o
interest and enthusiasm has been stir-
red in the section. Letters are pour-
ing in from many of the Old Boys
and Girt, to 'vnom personal invitati-
ons have been rent and a large num-
ber are hoping to be present.

The Stephenson Reunion Picnic
was held at Jowett's Grove, hayfield
on Wednesday, June 13th, with 96
in attendance. The weather, which
was threatening in the morning cle-
ared, and although it was cool, it
was fine and after the big meal a
game of ball and other sports was
indulged in Members were present
from Marlette and Detroit, London,
Clinton, Hensall, Wtnehnm, Stanley
and Goderich 'fps.
Many Kids
Harold Penhale of Stanley Town-
ship has a pure-bred Logenburg goat
which last week gave birth to four
kids, three of which are at present
doing nicely. The fourth lived to be
two days old.

A meeting of the Chamber o
:Commerce was held in the counci
-chamber last Friday evening. Th
treasurer reported over $300 cleared
on the 24th May and it was decide
to pay off the old debt on the lan
purchased some years ago by the old
Board of Trade. The committees re-
ported. Discussion favored a reunion
next year and it was decided to look
'into the matter of expense.

.Alma Scruton, R.N., of London, vis-
ited with relatives and friends in
town Sunday.
Dr. James Bell, of Harrisbu. g,
Penn., is visiting with his sisters,
Mrs. Hugh McEwen and Miss Jessie

ity.

Mr. and Mrs. James A. Paterson
were recently visited by relatives and
friends from the States and who all
attended Convocation at London, one
of the relatives from the States re-
ceiving honors there in a graduation
that was nice.
Mrs. A. R. Campbell returned from
several weeks' visit with her mother,
Mrs. D. McDonald, of Glandyer,
Neva Scotia, and wag accompanied
by, her little son, Billie.
Jelin and William Crang and sis-,
ter, Hannah, have returned from an !
auto trip to Toronto and other pla-
ces where they have relatives and
friends.
The funeral of the late Alice May
Walker, daughter of Mr. and 11lrs.
Geo. Walker was held from the fam-
ily home and was in charge of Rev.
W. A. Young of Carmel Presbyterian
church of which she was a valued
member. The floral tributes were
beautiful and many.
Election day ,passed quietly in the
village. No excitement of any kind
It being a nice day a good vote was
polled, out of 481 names on the iist
410 Were polled. Poll No. 1- gave
Ballantyne 133, Elliott 83, Cooper L
Poll No. 2 bave Ballantyne 12',5, El-
liott 67, Cooper 1. Majority for
Balan.tyne 108. In the evening• a
big crowd gathered on the streets to
hear the results and as the returns
carne, showing the election of Mr.
Ballantyne and the success of Mr.
Hepburn, the feeling was that they
should be given every chance and
co-operation.

nesday afternoon, June 20th, with
six present, Mrs. R. McAlister th
president presiding. The- meeting op
ened with Hymn 252, Mrs. W. Tut
ner led in prayer. The scriptur

musical numbers will be given and

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Callfas of
Sarnia visited here on 'Thursday.
His father, Mr. Henry Callfas re-
turned to Sarnia with him after sp-
ending two weeks at his home here.

Pollock—Witmer
A quiet wedding was solemnized
at the home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Isiah Witmer of the
Goshen Line , when their daughter
Lauretta became the bride of Floyd
Pollock, son of Mr. Robert Pollock
and the late Mrs. Pollock of Grand
Bend. The ceremony was perform-
ed by Rev. Henrick in the presence
of the immediate relatives. The
bride was becornmingly attired in a
white ensemble and was attended by
her twin sister Eloretta and Lambert
Witmer. Following the ceremony
Mr. and Mrs. Pollock left for a hon-
eymoon at Hamilton and Niagara
Falls.
The annual Strawberry Social of
the Lutheran church was held last
week with a large attendance. The
program consisted of musical numb -
ire, piano duets, vocal duets, ladies
`,rio and a mixed quartette. Two
ilaylets "The Minister's Mistake"
:nd "Getting Rid of Agents" and a
•eading in Pensylania Dutch by Ella
;veland were also given. Rev. T.
Luft acted as chairman. The ladies
':n charge of supper arrangements

Consider Old Boys' Reunion
The Chamber of Commerce held a
regular meeting when there was a
good attendance. The pres. Jas. W.
Bonthron, occupied the chair and the`
a'ecy read the minutes of last meet-
ing. A report folowed by the treas-
urer, W. B. Cross, showing that af-
ter paying all expenses connected
with the 24th of May celebration al-
most $300 stood to the good which
was a fine showing and was applied
to wipe out an indebtedness connect
ed with what was known as the Bo-
ard of Trade in past years and was
largely incurred in the purchasing of
land. Several committees gave in
very satisfactory reports connected
with activities under the supervision
of the Chamber of Commerce. The
inatter of an Old Boys' Reunion for
1035 received much favorable dis-
cussion and a committee was appo-
intd to secure as much information
as possible in connection with the
holding of such reunion.

week. When finished it should make
a good job.

Bruce Council Not Sympathetic
At the recent meeting ;of the Druce
county council a resolution was pre-
sented asking the !Provincial Govern-
ment to take over the Blue Water
Highway from Goderich north. Such
opposition was manifested, however,
that the resolution was withdrawn.
Trustee for 36 Years
Col. R. S. Hays has established a
record which in all probability can-
not be equalled in any town in Ont-!
aria. In 1808 Co1. Hays was ap-
pointed a Trustee of the Seaforth,
Collegiate Institute Board, and has 1
been reappointed each year since.isie p

IHis many old friends will hear with
regret that Andrew Porter, for the
past twenty years collector of cust-
oms of the Port at Goderich has de-
cided to retire. He will relinquish hie
duties :at the end of June. Mr. Por-
ter has had a varied career including
that of printer, newspaperman, trav-
eller, banker and on one occasion, a.
candidate for parliament honors.
