property by renovating the kitchen.

Messrs. -Wilmer Metzger and Char-
les Bartlett spent the week -end and
holiday in Windsor and Detroit.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Truemner and
family of Toronto, were week -end
visitors with the former's mother
here.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hess and
daughter Kathleen, accompanied by
Mrs. John Fuss are spending their
holidays in Detroit.
Mrs. Menno Steckle, Jr., of the
Bronson line Stanley was stricken
with an attack of appendicitis, and
taken to London. hospital for operati-
on.
No Action Finally •
. At the regular meeting of the Col-
borne ' township council on Tuesday
last, only one applicant for assist-
ance under ,the Seed Grain Act ap-
peared, and the council took no act-
ion in the matter. This disposes
finally of the muchdiscussed matter,
for this year at least. It is under-
stood that most of the farmers who
had applied for assistance have made
shift in some manlier for the season,
although in some cases it means the
sowing of inferior gTain.

Mr. and Mrs. Ira Tiernan of Ham-
ilton spent the week -end with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs, Ezra Tiernan.
Mr, and Mrs. Stadelbauer and fam
ily of London, were Sunday visitors
with Mr. and Mrs.'P. Kraft.
Mrs. H. Hoffman and Mrs. Stacey
and .Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan spent a few.
days in Kitchener last week, Mrs.
Tiernan attended the W. M. S. Con-
vention as a delegate held in that
place,
Mrs. A. Tiernan underwent an op-•
eration in St. Joseph Hospital, Lon-
don lest week. We are pleased to
report she is progressing ver Y favor-
ably.
Mrs. Heller of Sarnia is visiting

Dashwood Man Killed
When Hit By Train
Death of Adam Birk
A deep gloom was cast over this
community on Friday morning June
1st 1934 when it was learned that
Mr. Adam Birk who went to Exeter
station to meet his niece Miss Elean-
or Linclenfield Of London, was, struck
by the train on the railway crossing
jut west of Exeter, both being kil-
led, "Miss Linderifield was a gradu-
ate nurse from Victoria Hospital,
London and was going to spend her
holidays with her uncle Mr. Dirk and
clang* Verna. Mr. Birk was born
in 1871 in. Stephen Townsrup on the
farm where he has spent his entire
life.. He was married to Leah Haugh
April 7th, 1897 by Rev. Eby. They
enjoyed a happy christian home un-
til Mar& 1180 when hiscornpanion
was called away. The home was
blessed with four children, two hav-
ing died in infancy. He was conver-
ted early in life joining the church
and took a. -deep interest in the var-
ious activities and organizations of
the church. He always attended
services faithfully and did all he pos-
sibly could for Christ and the King-
dom. He held various offices in the
church, and gave his time and talent
to the Superintendency of the Sun-
day School during the last thirteen
years. Everybody loved him in this
noble work and be will long be re -
lumbered. by his noble life, high id-
eals and practical christian life. The
congregation, the village and com-
munity have admired his true char-
acter. He leaves to mourn his de-
parture one son Leonard of the Ag-
ricultural C011ege, Guelph, and one
daughter Verna at borne, one sister,
Mrs. Henry Truemner of Zurich and
one brother Samuel of Maxbass, N.
Dakota, who attended the funeral,
oat of a family of ten children as
•well as many other relatives and fri-
ends. -Tile funeral was held on Mon -
.day afternoon from his residence to
the Evangelical church. The pastor,
Rev, W. S. Hcnrich was alsisted by
ev. 1{.. A. Kellerman of Waterloo,
Ea's,. S. R. Knechtel of Kitchener,
Rev. J. H. Grenzebach of •Morriston,
Rev. t. Durn, Zurich' and Rev, F.D.
Meyer of Rodney. Spatial ,rnusie
Was rendered and the floral tributes
were' nunterous and beautiful show-
ing the high esteem in which the de-
ceased. was held. The pallbearers,
all nephews (A thedeceased were:

don Canfaa, Payetotat Cato, Are,
Truemner and Whitney Broken
shire. Interment took place nt the
