Examination Fees are to be
Reduced
Announcement was made last we-
ek by the Prmier that the depart-
mental examination fees are to be
reduced. Last year students were
taxed $1.50 for every paper they
wrote. This coming summer the fee
will be $1. From the --students'
standpoint, or perhaps more correct-
ly speaking, from the parents' stand-
point, that announcement will be re-
ceived gratefully. It is stated that
last year many parents found the
dollar and a half fea a heavy burden
particularly so when a student had
a number of papers to write. In
fact it barred some from writing all,
or somd subjects.
Ontario Hydro Is
Low Cost Production
In 1932, the last year for which
comparative figures are available,all
the domestic consumers served by
Hydro municipalities used an aggre-
gate of 740,000,000 kilowatt-hours,
for which they paid the average cost
of s11.676,000, or an aVerage cost,
inclusive of al Icharges, of only 1.57
cent per k.h. According to United
States census figures for 1032, the
domestic consumers served by pri--
vately-owned utilities in that country
Kid a an average of 5.60 cent per
k. -h. It is a simple matter to com-
pute that if Ontario Hydro domestic
consumers had to pay for the '740,-
000,000 k.-hrs. they used in 1932 as
much per k. -h. as United States con-
sumers paid, their bills would have
aggregated the vast sum of $41,-
490,000,
41;490,000, or nearly $30,000,000 more
than the amount their electricity ac-
tually cost them under Hydro service
