load upset and in jumping off, he
broke one of his legs in two places.

evening a dainty lunch was served.

The Ladies Aid of Dashwood Ev-
angelical Church held their regular
meeting in the church basement re--
cently with Mrs. W. Snell in the
chair. The topic. was given by Mrs.
A. W. Sauer and Mrs. D. Tiernan
led in prayer. , A piano duet was
given by Mrs. J. M. Tiernan and Miss
Ana Tiernan. At the business ses-
sion the following committees were

Receives Call

Fell From Load

Hensall, suffered serious injury. The

Window Broken
A big plate glass window in
O'Neil's grocery, Clinton, was smash-
ed last Sunday night. So far rio one
has come forward to acknowledge
responsibility for the damage. It
was ieplased however.
Bru.cefineld Wedding
A pretty wedding took place at
the Manse, Brucefield, on Saturday
last when Helen Munroe, daughter
of Mr. and Vlrs. Dan 1%Iuf roe was
united in marriage to Farl Mason, of
London. Rev. W. A. Bremner per-
formed the ceremony. The bride wore
a swagger suit of blue with acces-
sories to snatch: After a -short hon-
eymoon, they will reside in London.

71 Years Married
A unique event was celebrated b:.

Mrs. Smith is in her 90th year and
Mr. Smith in his :96th year. A fam-
ily of four sons and two daughters

Fire at Walton
The 'hone of Russell Marks ;at
Walton was destroyed by fire early
Saturday last. The fire is believed.
to have started in the attic. Part of
the contents was saved, although the
family wove forced to leave the buil-
ding only partly attired.
Shot Is Fatal
Ivan Steele,third son of Mr. and
Mrs. George Steele, of the 8th con-
cession of Culross tp., near Tees -
water, was killed at his home by . a
rifle discharging when he slipped on
•• ice. The bullet entering his side. The
young man 27, left the house with
his rifle in the evening, to shoot a
weasel that Was known to be around
the barn. When he did not return

Clinton Raises Dog License
Clinton is the latest Huron Coun-
ty town to declare war on pollee
dogs. A by-law is in preparation,
and will be submitted at the next
meeting, fixing the License at a high
figure. The license for these dogs
now is $20 at Pxeter and $10 in 1
Blyth. Legal adt'ice is that Councils
can discriminate in •the natter of
dog licenses, according to breed.
Hurled Out Of Car
Harold P,rophey, Goderich, is out
of hospital, receiving congratulat-
ions from his many friends ou a mir-
aculous e:+cape from death. He \vas
riding in J. Wood's car when he at-
teinpted to raise e the window of the
car. He grasped the wrong handle
and opened the door instead.. Mr.

The first lap of the happy groupe
was to Detroit; they were well sup

and mattresses, and warmly enclosed
with a tarpulin. The lads were look-
ing forward to a pleasant and speedy
trip to the West via Chicago and
Minninapolis.
Wm. Stevens Passes •
Wm. Stevens, an old resident of
Clinton and earlier of Hallett Tp.,
passed away on Good Friday at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. Jas.
McGill,- east of Clinton, in his 89th
year. He was bold in England in
1846 and carie with his young wife
to this country and to - Clinton 60
years ago. Working for some ti.ane
at the Stapleton Salt Works, then
moved to the 9th con, of Hullett,
where he farmed for '.n eny years,
retiring from the'. farm and coming
into Clinton 28 years ago, exactly,
the day of his death. He had been
in failing health for a few -years and
had failed- rapidly the past six mon-
ths. His wife died on Christmas .
day five years ago.:.
