Live Cattle Export The Ontario Marketing Board re- ports that during the past calendar year Canadan exports of live cattle to Great Britain were in excess of 50,000 head; more than three times: the number forwarded in 1932. On- tario exported some 30,000 animals or considerably more than half the total Dominion shipments. Assum- ing a mean average value of $50.00 per head, Ontario's export cattle business was worth upwards of $1,- 500,000 to the farmers of the Prov- ince last year which is an. increase of at least $1,000,000 over 1932.. More important to the average cat- tle raiser, however, is the fact that the removal of large numbers of cat- tle from the home market has con siderably improved domestic prices.. It is not an exaggeration to say that if this export trade had not develop- ed cattle shippers would be facing prices as low as 3c per pound instead of the prevailing quotations of a- round 6c per pound for the top qual- ity beef animals. Poultry Feed Facts • Complete experiments in poultry feeding show that skin -milk is an ex- cellent feed, that dry clover Ieaves with an occasional dose of Epsom Salts may replace roots or sprouted oats, that home -mixed is as good as a commercial grain, and that screen-! ings of good quality may ,replace part of the good grain. "The Yasrdstick" Jus recently been issuer by the Ontario Marketing Board. Ie gives a review of the various standards and grades under which Ontario farm products are sold and an attempt is made to educate the .housewife on how to buy on grade. The pamphlet also measures the responsibility of both producers, and consumers to a continuing agr- icultural prosperity in Ontario and is intended to be the first of a ser- ies discussing this subject from diff- erent angles. Copies of the booklet may be abtoin.ed from the Ontario 1VIarketing Board, Parliament Build- ings, 'Toronto.
