The monthly tea given by the Be-
thany Sisters' Class of the Dashwood
Evangelical Sunday School was held
on Tuesday afternoon at the borne of
Mrs. D. Tiernan with Mrs. Tiernan as
hostess. Mrs. Taylor presided at the
trettily appointed tea table. The
proceeds are to be used for mission-
ary Causes.

T. C. Joynt made a business trip
to Toronto last week and was accom-
panied by his son.
Rev. W. A. Young was taken sud-
denly ifl last Saturday evening and
was taken to Seaforth Hospital where
he was operated on for appendicitis.
He is recovering nicely.
Annie Consitt is adding to the ap•
pearance of her property by having
the barn taken down and a neat
garage built, The work is being
done by James Sangster of town.

Municipal matters are already en-
ga,ging the attention of our ratepay-
ers and , much appreciation is felt
that the taxes will be much levee
this year than for the past, as some
of the debentures have been paid
off for the paving of Main Street,
and the council has also managed
pretty econondeally.

fortunate a few years ago to injure
his ankle, has had a reoccurence of
the trouble. Dr. Collyer had him
taken to Seaforth Hospital • for 'an
•Xeray and slight operatiOn was per-
formed, which will, no doubt, prove
of much help to him. At present he
is resting nicely at his home.
A full carload of provisions of all
kinds was made up and sent from
this station the first part of•the we-
ek .for the needy ones in the Sask-
atchewan district. The contents of
this car was made up by contribut-
ions from not only the villagers, wh-
ere it was loaded, but also from 'the -
neighboring district, and will indeed.

Machinery Co., Goderich was on dis-
play outside the plant last Thursday
during the viceregal visit. These
machines were Ordered by the Grif-
fith Engineers Co., of South Africa
Orders by this firm frons. far -away
lands are not infrequent, machines
having been sent to Japan, New Zea-
land, Australia, Spain. and many
other distant foreign escentries.
During the severe electrical storm
which passed over Brussels the oth-
er night, a peculiar prank was play-
ed on the farm of Geo. Williamson.

and put a sudden end to three large
porkers lying on the floor of the

The other night a 50x16 foot hen
house on the farm of J. E. Reynolds
east of Seaforth was destroyed by
lightning. A neighbor noticed a
bolt of lightning strike the henhoeee
and the building burst into flames
at once, endangering the barns as
strong southeast wind was ,blowing
at the tine. Owing to the prompt ae-
sistance from neighbors and others
the fire was kept from burning • the
nearby barns. About 50 hens were
lost in the fire.
. The death occurred at her home
in Lucan of Susanna Stanley Ryan;
widow of John Ryan in her 79th
year. Deceased was a daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. James Stanley
one of 11 children, and was born in
Biddulph Tp. After her marriage she
lived 25 years on a farm in Biddulph
!atm. moving to London Tp., and 9
years, ago to Lucan.
The 75 -acre farm of the late Wes-
ley Allin, on the Maitland con., near
Goderich, was sold on Friday to 3,
E. 13eachler, lumberman, Goderich,
On the farm is 25 acres of excellent
eardwood bush and good buildings.
The price is understood to be $2,500
an indication of farm prices in that
district, for the Allin farm is oon-
ddered excellent property. A week
orevious at the auction sale the town
f Goderich bid $2,300 for this farm
just $200 short of the' reserve bid.
Since then the town' has purchased t
(37 acres for $1,200. On both prop- 1

• The body" of Geo. A. Siddall, 77 -
year -old grain dealer, of Lucknow,
was recovered last Friday in Purvis
Lake, 2% miles north of Lucknow.
It was found in 10 feet of water, a-
bout 20 feet from •the shore shortly
before the arrival of a boat with gra-
piing irons from Kincardine. Earlier
in the ' afternoon Siddall had been
driven to the lake by Robert Rose,
also of •Lucknow, who had been in-
structed le, the former to wait until
his return. After 20 minutes had
elapsed and Siddall did not return,
Ross' got out of his car and walked 1
toward the lake. He carne across
his overcoat resting on a stump, on
the lakeshore and a few minutes later
noticed the cap worn by Siddell
floating on the waters of the lake.
Shortly after he had finished foot-
ball practice on Friday afternoons
Herbert Palmer, 17 -yr. -old collegiate
student, collapsed on. Colbourn st
and died before medical aid could
reach him. He had just ridden. his
bicycle, with a fellow student on the
handle bars, from Agricultural Park
•where football practice was held.
"You know, I shouldn't do this; 1
have heart trouble,"' he gasped, and
then collapsed. He was carried into
a near -by home and Dr. Gallow was
called, but the youth had died. He
had been receiving treatment for
heart trouble for seine time antfhad
been warned against participating in
strenuous exercise, it is understood.
Harbert Palmer was only child and
geeat sympathy is felt for his mo-
ther, a war widow, who resides on
Britannia Road. The deceased was
born in Goderich and was popular
with school mates.
One of the happy events 'of the
past week in Goderich was the golden
wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
1. L. Aitken, esteemed couple, which
was obsereed in fitting manner on

of Mrs. Wm.. Warren, who passe'd.
away in her 132nd year following an
extended illness. Her maiden name
was Mary, Grace Down. -She was born
in England where she was united in
marriage with Mr. Warren who pre-
deceased her in December 1931. A-
bout 50 years ago the family moved
to this country. For a number of
years they resided in Hay l'ownship
