The pre urinary estimate of the
total yield of potatoes in Canada this
yeaar is 40,260,000 cwt. from 520.-
800 acres, or. 77 cwt. per acre as
compared with 76 cwt. per acre in
1932 and 83 cwt. per acre, the av-
erage for the five years 1927-1931.
Ontario's, yield is the lowest since
1916, being only 52 cwt. per acre
as .compared with 61 cwt. per acre
last year. This was largely due 'to
the draught which prevailed during
the summ:n• nioi t".t:,, particularly in
Southern and We tern Ontario.
Celery Growers Organize
For Marketing
Co-operative marketing was chosen
as a practical means of diatibuting
their product, when the celery pro-
ducers of Medford recently organiz-'
ed the Thedford Celery Growers' Co-
operative Ltd. To date, approximat-
ely eight per cent of the total acre-
age is controlled by this group. While
the crop will show a decrease volume.
as compared with that of last year,
growers report a satisfactory growth
and a promise of excellent quality.
With a sales organization to handle
district to truckers, as well as to
outside markets, growers are optim-
istic as to the future of their Co-
operative. It will be r raked that,
'during the last two years,. returns to
growers were most unsatisfactory,

Nursery Stock Fakirs
. "Be on guard against Nursery
Stock Fakirs," warns J. A. Carroll;
.Superintendent of Horticultural So-
cieties. "One community recently par-
ted with severaal hundred dollars as
advance on nursery stock to be de-
livered next spring. It has now be-
en learned that the fern supposedly
represented does not exist."' "There
are many reliable firms in Ontario"'
states Mr. Carroll, "and no one sho-
uld purchase from a stranger with-
out being sure of his credentials."
Red, Not Green Apples
Wanted in Britain
"Don't send green apples to Gre-
at Britain just now" is the advice
given to Ontario apple growers and
shippers by Andrew Fulton, the
Commercial Representative of the
Ont. Fruit Growers' Assiciation in
his latest report. Writing from Lon-
don, Eng., he says that, there is at
the present time a very weak demand
for ordinary qualities and green ap-
ples on all the markets in Great
Britain and afiy shippers who send
over such varieties as Colverts, St.
Lawrence and similar kinds, must ex-
pect -low values. The reason far this
situation is the heavy supplies of
cheap English apples of equal qual-
ity selling around 2s to 2s 6d a bush-
el. Even good quality Ontario Gre-
enings, No. is 2%" up, are only
malting from 19s to 23s a barrel. A
very good illustration of the heavy
discount for greenish apples was
shown during the ,first week in Oct -
