EAST ..AND WEST HURON
TEACHERS CONVENTION
The inspectors of East and West
Huron held a joint convention in
MacKay Hall, Goderich, on Thursday
and Friday, October 5th and 6th. A-
bout 250 teachers were present. West
Huron President, Miss Ada Webster,
presided on Thursday, while East
Huron President, Mr. AIan Finlay-
son had charge on Friday.
The first session was opened by,
Rev_ Mr. Bunt of Goderich. MayorC.
C. Lee in his address welcomed the
teachers to the county town. Mr. R.
Stonehouse of Goderich gave a pap-
er on the attaching of health which
was well received, he stated that GO
per cent of of the pupils Ieaving
Public School have defective perm-
anent teeth.
Mr. G. M Keeler, of Dashwood,
gave a lengthy report of the Ontt.
EducationalAssociat'ion held in Tor-
onto last Ester. Mr. Harry Shack-
leton of Blyth discussed sports and
field day activities. Mand. advantages
of such -organized play were given.
The Pres. of E. Huron gave his ad-
dress on the subject "Home, School
and Youth" He stsrongly advised
co-operation between the teacher and
parents and recommended a careful
study of each pupil's tendencies. Lun-
cheon was provided by the ladies of
Knox Presbyterian church.

The Young People of Goshen

Siegner of Mildmay died at Galt,
Ont., on Wednesday morning, Oct-
; ober 11th at the home of his dau-
ghter. -She will be hurried at Mild-
may at the Lutheran cemetery, age
84 years, 1 month. and 11 days.
;‘large number of citizens of
Zurich and vicinity attended the big
fowl supper at Varna last Thursday
evening,. which was very largely at-
tended, and the supper was of the
very best, also the musical numbers
by Roy Keys and his orchestra were
much enjoyed. The play put on by
Trinity church of Blyth, was also
very much appreciated by all.
Word has been received here of
the death, of Mrs. Paul Messner, of
Berwyn, Alb., and a former resident
Of this vicinity. The late Mrs. Mes-
sner was a sister to the late Henry
Truemner of Zurich and also to Mr.
Daniel Truemner of Crediton. Mr.
Messner died lass than a year ago,
and recently was a visitor with his
Many friends and acaquaintances in
the east.
