Don't forget the dates of the Zur-

possible to carry on, and make .thi,,

FORMER HAY TOWNSHIP
RESIDENT CELEBRATES
Hotels Close
Goderich's two summer hotels the
Sunset and Menesetung, have closed
after a quiet season. This is attri-
buted by C. C. Lee, owner or the
Sunset, to a failing off of Arnerican
guests, many of whom this year
went to the Century of Progress Ex-
position, Chicago. The managers of
both hotels, however, are agreed that
the deplorable condition of the Blue
Water Highway, both north and
south of Goderich, has hurt business
materially. The dust nuisance has
also been a big factor in discourag-
ing traffic, for it has never been so
bad as this season, due to the pro-
onged dry spell. Guest after guest
who came north over this road ex-
ressed their disgust and returned by
way of Clinton and London. 'With
pIles of gravel piled promiscuously,
ever in the sante place two days in
Uccession, the road is at present
nything but safe except at low

new memorial gates which have been
erected this summer, the gift of Mrs
W. Ferguson, in memory of her hus-
band, the late John A. Ferguson, who
died August 9, 1928. The. late Capt.
Ferguson was born and raised in Bay-
field but for a number of years he
ailed the Greal Lakes. As a young
an he entered the Marine Survey
ervice of -Canada but later joined
e Steel Trust and Pittsburgh Ste
mship Company, in which service
obtainedhis captain papers. Ov-
20 years ago he retired to Bay -
Id where he took an active part in
e affairs of the community. These
autiful gates, which fill a long -felt
ed in the .community, are a fitting
bute to his memory. The pillars
