The building, we understand will be made fireproof throughout, the side walls of cement and the roof will also fe fireproofed A very light shower of rain visit- ed these parts on Sunday night, ac- companied by a storm. The weather is still very hot and dry and the earthis so dry •that most farmers are hesitant of sowing their fall wheat till more moisture is preval- ent. With the opening of school on Tuesday, the holiday season is about at an end. The summer indeed was a hot and. dry one which made the lakesides very attractive. The sum- mer resorts in this district had a fairly good patronage again this yearn especially, we are told, thos places which are not so expensive. Cottag- es that were low in price were in good demand, while the higher prived ones were not taken so readily. The tourist camps did a big business, as people with tents or rent a cabin can enjoy an outing with little cost. While a large number again this summer enjoyed the outing, yet there were mony luxuries that they enjoyed in former years, that this year they did without. The summer hotels had a big decrease ;n business and if conditions do not pick up rapidly, these hotels will have to greatly increase their rates if they wish to maintain a good patronage. Estimated at 60,000,000 Pounds Department of Agriculture offic- ials fficials at Ottawa, now estimate that 60,000,000 pounds of ham ,and bacon will, be exported from Canada to Great Britain this year. Last spring the estimate was 50,000,000, but al- ready the 25,000,000 mark has been passed and the best half of the year has yet to come. The increase in: the exchange to 30 cents on the pound. sterling, above what the Canadian Government guaranteed inits stabil- ization fuitd, will encourage the bac- on trade as well as the live cattle. Seed Prospects The alsike acreage was lessthan in some years. .This year's yield is ranging from 2 to 5 bushels per acre with an average of about 3 bush. The seed is smaller than usually but gen- erally a fine colour and plump so that the quality is good. There is swing.
