Lost Weekly Paper
Clifford has lost its weekly paper,
its dentist and butcher within the
past few- months. A dentist of Walk-
erton is locating there, and a butcher
Irene Ayton will be the new butcher,
flout alas, there is no word of a new
editor, though the business men of
the town say they miss the printing
office very much.
The County Clerk
Is Not Resigning
County Clerk Geo. W. Holrnon,
who has been confined to hie home
since last Friday through illness oc-
casioned by high blood .pressure, as
reported. He issued the emphatic
statement to the press, adding that
no one had any authority to make
any such announcement. The Co-
unty Clerk took ill the day before he
was to have appeared for examinati-
on before the special examiner. The
investigation was postponed indefi-
nitely. It is stated by the Clerk that
his examination had nothing what-
ever to do with the cash ehorta;es
of the Treasurer, but rather with
cleric irregularities. Mr. Holman,
who is under the doctor's care ex-
pects to be soon out attending his
official duties.
In Police Court
There was a rather heavy docket in
Goderieh police court on Saturday
morning last. Already sentenced to
six months at Walkerton for theft
Geo. A. Riley, an old offender. with
a record as long as the proverbal-arm
was sentenced by Mag. Reid to three
and six months each on two charges
of theft, and one .month on a third,
all sentences, including that impos-
sd in. Bruce County, to run concur-
rently. Robt. Lauder, McKillop Tp.
charged with obtaining a horse and
the. sum of $300 by false pretences,
was given suspended sentence for 6
araonths.,on payment of - $6 in court.
1 liar consuming liquor ' fir a public
place, Joe Fisher and Jim Steele were
each fined $14.60. Fisher paid up,
'tett 'Steele took the count. Their lady
friend ,on the "party". charged with
vagrancy, was placed on suspended
sentence for 12 months. Arising

During the electrical stormabout
1.30 Sunday night lightning struck
a barn. on the farm of 'William De
vine, about 3 miles southwest of here
Although an immediate alarm was
spread and helpers rushed to the
scene, the barn was completely de-
stroyed and with it the entire seas-
on's crop of hay and grain, one calf
and harness. A nearby shed and
hen house were saved by neighbors
who carried barrels of water on the
bumpers of cars. The DashwoodFire Equipment was unable to help
owing to lack of water which had to
be carried some distance.. The loss
is partially covered by insurance.
Miss Alma Ratz of Shipka spent
the week -end with Zeta Nadiger.School reopened on Tuesday with
the same staff of teachers, Mr. G.
Keeler, principal; Miss Martinson
and Miss Pepper in charge.
Miss Elda Kraft of: London spent
she week -end at her home.
Miss Zeta Nadiger left on Tuesday
for Victoria Hospital, London, where
she will be a nurse -in -training.
Miss Alice Willed returned to Ft.
Wayne after, spending a few weeks

Death of Mrs. Henry Staubus
Mrs. Henry Staubus nee Anna
Plaxboard, died on Thursday morn-
ing at her home here. She was in
her 57th year and has been in failing
health for some time. She is surviv-
ed by her, husband, one son Oliver,
and one daughter Louise, booth at
.tone, also two sons and a daughter
of a former marriage, Edward Grigg
Dashwood, Roy Grigg of Thedford,
and Mrs. Haycock of London. Three
sisters also survive, Mrs, Louis Kraft
Mrs. Fred Kaibfleisch and Mrs. •Hy.
llowald, and Mrs. M. Meidinger of
Zurich. Funeral services were held
on ,Saturday afternoon with Rev, T.
Luft officiating. Interment took place

ughter Edith of Detrit, visited last
week at Mr. and Mrs. 'Theo Mc-
Adams. Milton McAdams went with
them to Detroit to spend a week vis-
iting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Pask, at Clawson, Mich.

A meeting of the Zurich Police
Trustees was held on Saturday ev-
ening with the chairman John Hey
Jr., absent owing to illness. Among
other things discussed the following
were recommended to form a volun-
tary fire brigade for Zurich, and to
become organized: W. Reith, M. G.
Deitz', Lloyd O'Brein, Lee O'Brein,
Earl Thiel, Len. Prang and Herb.
Mousseau. It would indooa please
the Trustees as well as all citizens if
these capable young men would get
together and in some way get organ-
ized, so- that when a fire breaks out �
someone will. - have some knowledge
of handling the fairly good equip
ment that we .have,

Word was received here on Thurs-
day of last week el the passing oi`,
a former well known resident of Zur-
ich in the person of Andrew Mittle-
holtz who died at the family resi-
dence, 120 Charon street, iiitchener.
The deceased was in his ti9th year
and death came after an illness of
one year's duration. He is `survived
be his wife, ,five daughters, Mrs. A.
Harrison of Detroit; Sister Mary
Gregory of Walkerton, Annie, Frran-
ces and Mary at home; also by four
sons: Ted. of Zurich, Tony, Claytus,
and Leo of Kitchener. Also surviv-
ing are three sisters, two brothers
and 'nine grandchildren. The funer-
al took place from the family resi-
dence, Kitchener, on Saturday morn-
ing at nine o'clock with service at
St, Mary's church. Interment was
made in Mount Hope cemetery. Mr.
Mittleholtz was well and favorably
known in Zurich having lived here
till some twelve years ago he moved
to the busy city of Kitchener, with
the family. ,Zurich friends sympath-
