Ontario Junior Teain
In competition with teams repre-
senting five different teams represent
ing five' different Provinces and three
Strates of the Union, Ontario placed
third in the Junior Seed Judging
Competition held at the World's
Grain Show, Regina. The Ontario
team, composed of Maurice Baker,
Durham County, Clifford Marshall,
Oxford County, Oliver Smith, Dur-
ham County and John Wallace, Perth
County; won a total of $620 in pri-
zes monies, with Maurice Baker se-
curing the third high aggregate score
This is a real • achievement for Ont-
ario Juniors,, particularly ..c, when it
is realized that they were only excel-
led by teams from. the grain growing
Provinces' of Saskatchewan and Alb-
erta which placed 1st and 2nd , resp-
ectively. The standing o1 the team
is a splendid tribute to the all roubd
nrogramrne being carried on with the
Tunior Farmers throughout Ontario
Sy the Agricultural Representative.

ected the growth of crops that con-
dition figures for the principal ones
at the end of July were the lowest
recorded in guy year since 1918, the
lowest recorded • in any year since
1918, .ie; t,rst year in whiels, figures
were cdixrptled. Spring grain which
was at the ripening stage during the
Iast half of July suffered severely
from'iCie ' heat. Early oats and bar-
ley turned out better than anticip-
ated, while fall wheat showed a wide
range, with many fields having an
excellent yield. Pastures were so
badly burned at the end of July that
farmers' generally were forced to
stable feed their dairy herds. Early
August rainfalls, however, have im-
proved the pasture situation. A much
smaller yield of both burley and flue-
cured'tobacco 'is indicated. The can-
dition of dry _ beans is much below
average in Western Ontario.
Ontario Egg Situation
"In Ontario, as • practically over
the whole of Canada," said T. A. Ben
son, Federal Poultry Branch, Toronto
"the production of eggs has dropped
and with any increase in demand may
easily drop below the level of con-
sumption. "The lack of an active
demand for eggs from Ontario, and
to some ..extent on the Ontario mar-
kets, has caused a temporary further
reduction in prices. This condition
however; is not unusual at this seas-
on and may resule in a somewhat in-
creased consumption, as indicated by
1a better clearance of eggs on the
i market early this week. Receipts on
the 14lontre'?al market as of August
were considerably lighter than those
of the same date last year. At this
may herald the turn, of the market
in an upward direction, which is a-
bout due. Usually such a turn com-
esquite quickly at this season.
Apple Inspection
The Provincial Fruit Branch and
the :Dominion Fruit Branch have jo-
ined forces in the inspection of the
apple crops of Ontario in connection
with the export regulation of the
Destructive Insects and Pest Act that
prohibits the export of apples to any
country other than the United Stat-
es unless the shipment is accompan-
ied by a certified of inspection issu-
ed .by a duly -appointed inspector. It
i,5.:intended to inspect only these PF e
chards from which apples are likely, s I
to be exported. Any grower who pro l°
poses to export. apples is required to p
submit an application- for inspection; t'
with the exception of growerg who t
have been carrying out control oper- . ,
rations this season under the Ontario 1
Fruit Branch under the "Orchard Cer
tilicateion Plan. These growers
have already been listed. The insp-
ection began on August 23rd and
